Flare up after op

Hi, I had a knee arthroscopy around 12 days ago and my arthritis has flared up, mostly in the affected knee. I left it for a while in case it was just the op effects but pretty sure now that it is arthritis. Also my calf muscle has seized up, can that flare up too? Tried ringing hospital but their helpline has permanent message saying you have to email and will get a response 7-10 days. Booked a GP phonecall, also 10 day wait. Wondering whether to request oral steroids which I hate or just a steroid injection in the knee and need advice on the calf muscle too. Not all painful, just stiff and achy.

Oh Fluff, sorry your recovery has been hit so badly. Its good the hospital will get back on Mon. In the meantime can you take additional painkillers? Definitely get the question in about the calf just for some reassurance.

Would a heat pack help to ease it do you think? Or perversely ice ( I do the weird mix of heat and ice depending if its stiffness or inflammation thats troubling me worse )

Take care

Hiya HC, it's not really painful but stiff, achy and very warm!! Been avoiding eating peas because I need them as an ice pack! Anyone who can't afford their heating bill is welcome to come and warm themselves up on my kneecap this winter! Bring marshmallows for toasting...

My sister had her knee replaced last year and had lots of problems afterwards. She had problems with her calf just afterwards and it was a blood clot so please get it checked out asap. Hopefully yours isn’t but better to get a doctor to look at it. 🤞🏻🤞🏻🤞🏻

I would go to the ward and explain you can’t get anyone else to look at it and it’s not been right since the op, they usually say if you have a problem with it to pop up , worth a try . Failing that go up to urgent care

Hi As Kati66 suggested. Get your calf seen as ASAP. Ring 111 if u don’t fancy a trip to A&E.
