Ankle pain
Do you have a podiatric surgeon at your hospital. If so ask for a referral to them. They really are the feet experts! They train as podiatrists first and then do the extra years of training/studying to become surgeons. Despite their name they are also the experts in conservative treatments too.
Hi, I am also experiencing the same issue. Saw my RA consultant last week and they have referred me to physio. In the meantime I have found putting a cold press on my ankles has helped eased the pain. I do this 4 times a day. This is the only thing I have found that helps. Good luck and I hope you feel better soon.
I spent years with this same problem. Rocker shoes made things worse. Orthotics helped a bit but problems continued. I had X-rays and an a mri. I was referred to a senior physio as I couldn’t raise my toes off the floor he did a Doppler scan which showed tears and calcification in my Achilles. MRI reports were incorrect. I had a steroid injection which helped enormously. It’s still my weakest point and first to flare . You know what’s wrong with your body keep fighting for answers. I did .
Try sleeping with your ankle raised eg on a pillow. That really helps when my ankle pain is bad. Is it swollen?
I went to an NRAS online gathering about getting back to exercise and walking a few weeks ago it was inspirational and really helpful. Ali from the Kington walking hub was the guest, she has had RA for 24 years and walks lots now, and rather than orthotics she uses wide shoes that give toes plenty room and barefoot shoes with no rocker or insole. it is a very different approach and certainly works for her. It might be available as a recording on NRAS website?
Ask your gp to refer you for MRI because tendons, cartlidge etc don't show up on xray. Just keep on at them until you get a diagnosis. Good luck
