This has been my worst version of it. Started over a week ago with incredible sweating and mood swings; then a flare up in my legs for two days and just when I thought was on the mend - and to cap it all a cold sore and conjunctivitis like symptoms in both my eyes. Wish this germ would disappear.
Keep safe everyone!

That’s a good point. I’d felt “stressed” and run down/tired/tetchy not quite right for about a month but then a week ago Friday it was a complete overwhelming and sudden onset feeling of not being right. Had to leave a flight heading to Spain from Gatwick as felt awful and was dripping in sweat, was sick.
It may have been bubbling away in my system. Either way , not a nice variant this time.
It does seem strange that the same unfortunate people keep testing positive doesn’t it?
I’m sure people who commute on public transport regularly must be more exposed than retirees like me who never need to do that.I wonder if whoever keeps records compares age groups?
Well let’s hope this is definitely your last time!
It's weird, I worked in retail and used trains to work all through it and never caught it, not even when my partner got it. I'm off waiting for another operation, he goes to a work ceremony at a hotel and comes back with it. I caught it for the first time a few weeks ago. Felt ill for 48 hours then was fine. He has Myasthenia Gravis and shod be really bad and was ill for24 hours. He works remotely so was back working in his home office next day. His neurologist says there's no rhyme or reason who gets ill or catches it. X
That is so true….but it does seem amongst my friends, those who are liable to get pulmonary infections when they catch a cold seem to suffer more when they catch Covid. Thankfully I don’t ..the only time I had a little cough was post Covid,
I normally, if I do catch anything, which is rare, it's a chest infection and takes me weeks to get rid. I have asthma, but this I've avoided no end of times. Can't remember last time I had a cold though. Before this 1st dose of covid, last time I had a chest infection was 9 years ago x
Whoever “they”….are, what do you think should be done ? Unless LockDown is brought back…everyone has really got to take their own precautions. Those who want to - can still wear a mask if it makes them feel safer.
But when you think about it…we have annual Influenza vaccinations…& that virus mutates every year & the vaccine is remixed every year, with viruses collected from the Far East & Australia & we think nothing of it. Surely that is how we will now now have to move to treat Covid…but how often would the vaccine be changed? I’m sure the scientists are beavering away…..but it must be very difficult to decide time scales.
The big difference right now between covid and flu vaccination is that hardly anyone can have a covid vaccination now. You are right, we should all be getting the covid vaccine every year in the way that flu is rolled out to many people across the age groups, including children, carers, disabled people, and older people. Maybe this will change now with the change of government.
No in fact I don’t think we should be having an annual Covid vaccination until a type of Covid lasts long enough for the scientists to know what to put in it.
As I said…Covid appears to mutate so fast & with vaccines it takes time to decide which viruses to use. & as I said theWHO use viruses for the Influenza vaccination from all over the world & they change every year ..so who decides what to use in a new Covid virus?
Honestly I felt worse after the first two AZ vaccinations than I did when I had Covid….
As to who decides on what coronavirus vaccines to use, that is the WHO as well and researchers all over the world. Individual governments in each country can approve which vaccines to use.
For instance in France although they emphasis covid vaccines in older and vulnerable people, anyone who wants one can have one. That will keep levels of covid19 lower overall. But in the UK it is only only 75s, those older people in care homes (young disabled people in care homes don't get it) and a limited number of people with a weakened immune system. It seems that the UK is still going for herd immunity by making sure everyone gets it, which means more people will be getting Long Covid too.
Well maybe those of us who won’t be having any more Covid vaccinations can donate theirs - to those who want one. Nobody I knows will be having one any time soon.
Well I will. Apart from a dreadful reaction to my third Pfizer vaccine when I was ill for days and had Myocarditis for some weeks after, I’ve just been unwell for a couple of days after the others, but was very much worse with Covid itself.
I recently spent time in my local hospital sitting next to a senior nurse who worked in ICU throughout covid. She said that anyone who had seen what she has would not hesitate to have the vaccine.
Well speak as you find…..my experience of the after effects of the early AZ vaccine proved different…….as confirmed by my rheumy, consultant, ent consultant & consultant ophthalmologist.
Very good post/comments Cyber. 🩷 Yes, I too think you should be able to have the vaccine if you want one. Not just the vulnerable cohorts. (I think this will change here.) x
I for one do not want to go back to this again. It can be avoided if we stay in and don't mix. Who wants that? We live with it,have jabs if we want to but they are not 100% protective anyway. We adjust to live the life we want to with choices. If anyone is on biological medicines we are entitled to free Covid tests and antivirals. Not me I'm out there mixing .
I agree…as far as I’m concerned we have moved on. Nobody ever got it right about who was the most likely to suffer most. Being very elderly & on Rituximab…the Government must have spent thousands telling me how vulnerable I was. Of course I was careful, no cinemas/theatres when they were still open…but I probably broke the rules by meeting friends…but when I did succumb it was a very mild dose, & being over Christmas I didn’t get the antivirals & I still recovered quickly. But look at how many supposedly fit& healthy people suffered badly or died. So as I say - nobody got it right who was the most vulnerable. So would anyone do any better now?
I couldn't agree more! I never want to return to lockdowns ever again. That caused way more damage than the virus did. I live in a village the virus seems to be bouncing back and forth round here. It's a bit weird to have it in summer. I do wonder if the tests are any good. Who knows.
With the Influenza vaccine…which I THINK is the only world wide annual vaccine chosen & distributed by the WHO… it contains different components in different parts of the world…chosen from world wide sources…so presumably all the countries who use it….contribute to the cost?
Waffling on…..something like that for Covid maybe in the pipeline?A dual Influenza/Covid Vaccination has been talked about hasn’t it?
But I doubt any UK pharmaceutical company would go it alone to produce a vaccine just to distribute here. Such a company might invest to do dedicated research on people like yourself……but to gather all that information would probably take too long, as Covid seems to mutate so fast….& the research would be out of date before it could be used…so no profit to be gained,& with the millions of people on UK hospital waiting lists for treatment already available, if capacity could be found, the Government would likely spend our money there first.
I read that could be in the pipeline but the only time I had a reaction was when I decided to have separate flu and covid jabs on the same day . Not nice as I was poorly for days.
I have had 4 Covid vaccinations, ,& with my rheumatologist’s full agreement I’m not having any more…unless a dedicated vaccination is perfected,& even then I will think more than twice.
Strangely enough my first sign of having Covid was uncontrollable sneezing & yesterday I had a similar episode…..I wasn’t feeling particularly bright & I was sneezing for England….so out came the Covid test…& thankfully it was negative.
I have woken up this morning with no sign of a cold….it’s a funny old world!
Unfortunately I got it from a stay in hospital and ended straight back in as I had pneumonia too. Get well soon hun, plenty of fluids and oranges if you can.
You’ll get there I’ve had sepsis and pneumonia twice but pneumonia quite a few times now. It’s not nice when you can’t breathe properly but a relief when you can but you’ll need to do deep breathing exercises when you are up to it to open your lungs up again. Don’t worry.you’re in the best place.
A young friend of mine picked it up recently…she is a school teacher…& she still went in to school to do Admjn, in a quarantined room…but didn’t go in to classrooms.
Seems sensible…but not many occupations would fit that model.
When I had it…...despite them sending an ambulance to cart me off to hospital,I showed the paramedics the latest local newspaper saying people with other illnesses were catching Covid in the hospital they were intending taking me to. I demonstrated I had food in the fridge,I was warm & not in a bad way….& they agreed I was safer at home, so I stayed home & got better.
But I do wonder why some people get it more than once…& tbh is it coincidence? Because if the majority who caught it had a particular disease …..it would be understandable, but amongst people I know who had it…. in fact one 50+ healthy woman died, but I ….much older with a compromised immune system on Rtx just had something like a bad cold.
I obviously don’t want it again.… I don’t know where I caught it, but now I don’t go to any particular lengths to avoid it, except trying not to be in crowds.
Covid is certainly going around again. My son and his family came back from Florida and all had it. My hairdresser told me when she got home from having an op at hospital took it and my next door neighbours told me they had it. My daughter-in-law phoned their GP and the receptionist was very rude to her, she was worried about the baby. Even the chemist told her not to bother testing her, call the doctor if she gets worse. They are just treating it likes it’s the common cold now. They did all get over it but it took my neighbours over a month as they were floored. Think we are all just going to have to live with this now, I’m glad I had my booster a few months ago, Touch wood I still haven’t had it.
Thanks. I agree - it’s here to stay. It feels more like an old fashioned flu with the aches, fevers. Hopefully my eyes will clear and then I can go outside.
Yes it does sound like the old flu, but if no one is staying home anymore, it’s going to spread quicker unfortunately. Hope you feel better soon. Best wishes x
Yes, we both got it again. Positive lines on the test. Started with really bad headache like migraine, went to sore throat, diarrhoea and some sickness. Also very tired. Lasted about 3 weeks all together. I hope you get well soon.
I’m sorry to hear you have it again … and it sounds nasty! Unfortunately, although I am strongly against lockdowns, I am annoyed that people seem to be going around spluttering and sneezing around other people like it’s nothing . Can’t they stay away from others when they have symptoms ! I was served by a sick woman in the supermarket yesterday … handling all my shopping ! They get sick pay fgs! It should be frowned upon by employers to go into work in that state.
Feel like I may be swimming against the tide, but I tested positive for COVID about 6 weeks ago. Not sure why I did the test, I think we were going somewhere so I tested and it was positive. I had about 24 hours of feeling rough, then that was it. Looked up rules and quarantine seems optional, you don't have to tell your boss and can carry on working! As it was my husband and I stayed home with the exception of a daily walk in the countryside for 5 days. He had a bit of a cough but felt fine after a day or so. I was thinking our vaccinations must have worked well, but I bet there are many people out there walking round with COVID. I do hope you feel better soon xx
Sorry to hear you caught it again and feelfeel poorly. I have it too. It started just over a week ago, runny nose and sore throat. It seem to pass within a couple of days.
I thought it was a mild cold and I was lucky it was so brief. But then sore throat got worse again and I developed a cough and felt totally drained.
Since then I've had days when I think it's passing and the next day, like today feel quite rough, coughing and wheezy and very tired.
I've carried on working although I haven't felt up to it. Most people seem to be carrying on as normal if the symptoms are too bad.
I had it recently for 3weeks. Not totally the worst but still crap, I had had my Covid vaccine 2 weeks before I went to London for a team away day, read super spreader day as 4 of us got covid from the day!
Yes got it at Glastonbury. It was terrible. Really bad cold sores too. I did get antivirals. But I was so worried as my sisters funeral was the week after but luckily I got 2 negative days before.
Yes, I caught covid about a month ago and it totally floored me for about 4 days, couldn't get out of bed and was still ill about a week or more later. Having said that, I've suffered both other times I've had it and the 3 times I've had the jab. I'd say this was the worst though 😞
No thank goodness 😅 I’ve been trying very hard to avoid Covid!
Mask 😷 up with a FFP2 or FFP3 respirator when in crowded places, indoors and outdoors as these latest variants are very contagious and spreading rapidly. Ventilate wherever you can.
It will be far worse after the many crowded footie events tonight as the numpties will spread it fast in their families and communities 🤦🏻♀️.
It's hard not too avoid it now as most people not testing I work occasionally going to care homes local authorities not giving tests out I brought some myself tested positive didn't go on a visit. Caught it from coughers on public transport I seem to catch it in the summer. It was mild. Not had the booster this year. Gp are checking when you last had it though...
Yes I agree it’s hard not to catch it for anyone having to use public transport and working in difficult environments so good quality respirator masks are important.
I had exactly the same thing , started feeling unwell last 2 days last month Of my holiday in mexico tired and had cold sores, not much appetite and a headache , I though I overdone the walking about and swimming but on the day we flew home I fell asleep on the couch to airport then slept most of the 9 hours home, next day I felt horrendous aches all over, coughing, dull sense of taste and smell, and sore sticky eyes though maybe jet lag took mc days to think it could be covid. It was. All symptoms pointed to the new strain FlirT. All this after having the vaccination in April This was the 4th time I've had covis and the last time I onlybtestedcbecause I'd been in contact with someone who had , didn't even feel, unwell that time, but this one hopefully never again, hopefully you are fully recovererecovered now
I had a so-called "mild" strain of covid and needed hospital treatment. It set my RA treatment back about 6 months as well. I caught it from socialising with a friend at my flat who subsequently tested positive then my symptoms began shortly after. The day after my exposure whilst still without symptoms I had close physical contact with my boyfriend but he's never had it, not even when his own children had it and he mixed with them. Such a weird disease
