Covid Booster

Hello all. I had my covid booster on Friday and last night my temperature got really high and the lymph nodes in my neck and armpits are like golf balls. Can hardly move my head. It’s Methotrexate day tomorrow. Do you think I should still take it? Will try and call the nurse tomorrow but I don’t always get a call back straight away. Has anyone else had a similar reaction? I had a bit of a headache with my first two doses but nothing like this.

Missing one dose of Mtx probably won’t make that much difference……I often missed a week just because I forgot!

Sorry for your poor golf balls. Do check with your rheumy nurse re the Mtx.

It probably means you have a really good response. It seems a fairly common side effect. I stopped Mxt for a couple of weeks but as it takes a long time to build up or leave your body I don’t think it makes much difference.

I wouldn't take it but you need advice from rheumy. Good luck. I hope you feel better soon.

My Rheumy nurse told me not to take my MTX until 2 weeks after my booster. I’ve read on here folks getting different info though. Hope it all calms down fast. X

If it was me I would miss my dose. There is the notion that you can stop your MTX for 2 weeks after having your jab with the aim of upping your antibody count. I have done this for all 3 of my jabs. As a scientist this made sense to me very early on. However, I am in remission so it was a no brainer in my case. There is currently a large scale study going on where some carry on with their MTX, some stop for 1 week and some stop for 2 weeks after having their 3rd primary/booster. I was exposed to Covid via my son (secondary school) in Sept this year and I tested negative (PCR). So it is a HUGE thank you to the scientists from me!!

That's great news that you tested negative Joy. My two young grandchildren had positive PCR test results come through on Sunday morning whilst we having Facetime with the family online. Their school in greater London is rife with it. They are aged six and eight and are, at present, asymptomatic. My fear is for my son who is CEV. He has had his booster so you can see why your message is really comforting for me. His wife hasn't had hers yet (although she was offered to have her jabs as the same time as her hubby she was...wait for it...too busy at work!) She's a lovely person, but because she was in the throws of changing jobs she wanted to ensure that everything was ship shape and up and running for the person who was taking over from her. I love her for that, but do think she should have put herself first on this occasion.

I suppose skipping one week dose would not be bad as your body probably will have stored some, I have done same when on antibiotics after a tooth extraction however you could double check with your doctor.

I'd be tempted to leave it off. One week won't usually matter. Hopefully your reaction will mean that you are making lots of antibodies to fight Covid. Hope you feel much better soon. xx
