My husband belongs to a golf club and Covid has been about there for about a month (after the golf holiday ) so he's been testing and unfortunately two weeks ago he tested positive. He has no symptoms apart from a sniffle. So I've tested every other day and all are negative so has the vaccine worked ? I don't know but definitely I don't have it. It is a strange virus. Apparently several of his chums have it but so far no wives. I wonder why? but the really good news is that no one has anything but minor sniffle and a headache for a day or so. So be careful it is still about even if it may not be as nasty as it was before thanks to the vaccine and medications.
Covid again!: My husband belongs to a golf club and... - NRAS
Covid again!
It is indeed very strange how some people get it and others don't despite living in close proximity with each other. The rates in Scotland are quite alarming.
I was out today to the local garden centre and wore a high grade mask even though most of the plants I was looking at were outside in a partially covered area. I sat outside for a coffee, but chose not to go indoors to use the loo, not a big problem.
I did hear that the rates are possibly reaching their peak just now, so we should see a reduction in numbers soon, but there was an expectation that numbers will rise significantly come Autumn....be prepared for a 6th wave.
Yes jut when I thought it was relatively safe to be mask free, its now back in the handbag ready for use. My fuchsias look great and the geraniums are really heavy with flowers and best of all loads of greengages ripening up nicely. Apples look good and the dahlias are starting for cut flowers, But still room for more as the stocks didn't do well and the marrigolds got munched by slugs. Have a huge amount of sweet peas and the sweet williams have been taken out, but they gave a long show of beautiful flowers.
You’re right it is strange how some people get it while others don’t.The rates are high in Scotland - my husband has just this minute read out the rates for the U.K. and according to him the rates in Scotland are very high - in Scotland was around 6% fortunately it’s lower here but for how long? . It really is a worry. Let’s hope this is the autumn surge come early. I’ve got lots of masks in my handbag ready to use plus hand gel - mind you I’ve always got masks and hand gel in all of my bags - we hardly ever go inside these days though thank goodness.
Glad you haven't got it and your husband has only mild symptoms.
My good friend and her whole family have it (caught it from her daughter who is in school) and she's quite poorly with it (she's fully vaccinated), she thought she had escaped it as this is her first time. I guess its going to be around for a very very long time
But you had Covid didn’t you? So you would probably still have that to protect you. But for those who haven’t had Covid It certainly sounds as if the vaccine has done it’s job & ensured the virus only causes a mild infection.
Nice to know for all of us waiting for the second shoe to drop!
It is definitely around and people I know who have got it it’s both husband and wife.My husband (4 vaccinations) had it a couple of months ago and although we didn’t stay apart - well no kissing! - I (3 vaccinations) never got it. You would never have known he had it - a bit sniffy but I wondered why he was using an inhaler and suggested he take a lateral flow test and sure enough it was positive. He stayed positive for about a week, then one day the line was a bit feint and next day it had faded completely.
Last year when it was doing the rounds it was boyfriends and husbands who got it - think after some sort of sporting events- not the wives and girlfriends.
Could the tests be just picking up flotsum from having been jabbed?
My next doors husband came back from Spain on Thursday and he has it now. xxxx
My son back from a Spanish sports tournament has it so has hundreds who took part.
It is very strange! Myself, my fiance, our baby and my mom caught it over Easter (with our daughter being a little super spreader). But my dad never caught it. He, like you kept testing and waiting for a positive result, but it never came. My mom only tested positive for 5 dags- not sure if that had anything to do with it, in combination of him recently having a booster.
You can still get it even if you are vaccinated. I have been working in peoples houses and I have a holiday let so meet a lot of people. I don’t wear a mask anymore. I have been in close contact several times with positive cases but never tested positive. My respiratory consultant said she hasn’t even had it!! She also said they may find that some people are immune to it and may never get it. I think we should do what we feel safe with. We have to live with this virus now just like we do with flu!
Yes we do and its very early days to understand a lot but we've come a long way from the awful conditions of 2020. x
I think there should be some tests on all of us with compromised immune systems who have escaped Covid….to see if there is a common denominator!Who knows…we may be harbouring the magic ingredient to make everyone actually immune….not just protected by vaccination.
Of course AZ,Pfizer etc will never let that happen…..free blood from us, instead of paying them for their vaccine!
Yes! Although my husband hadn’t had it and he isn’t on any meds, It’s all very strange !
I agree and think we should be tested for antibodies. I know it's not about them but it might help.
There are so many technical computer programmes these day….I would have though as on the whole- out of the 60+million population there aren’t that many immunocompromised people who have NOT had the virus…it shouldn’t be that hard to find a common denominator in our bloods….that could possibly mean we are immune to Covid… and at least we could stop agonising whether to have another vaccination or not. Although I am now over the age to be a blood donor I’d willing to give a pint of blood every now and then if analysing it could find something that might help.
But I expect the boffins thought of it ages ago & it’s a complete impossibility ….but it’s nice to think it could happen!
The Covid vaccination isn’t actually designed to stop you catching Covid. It works by activating your immune system to put it on alert, so that when someone actually catches the virus…it has already had a prior warning…so it knows to leap into action quicker.
Once you have been vaccinated your immune system will act more quickly than on an unvaccinated person….so you will hopefully get a milder attack.
If only there was such a drug to actually stop anyone catching this virus, this Pandemic would be over by now.
But everybody who is able should be vaccinated….in the meantime, let’s hope research does miraculously find some thing to stop us catching it.
It's not surprising that it's on the rise again. Big events where lots of people are in close proximity are likely to be the cause. Glastonbury, Wimbledon and multiple festival season, football matches. Add to that people being on holiday in busy locations and it's inevitable. My son in law recently got COVID after attending a small party but my daughter didn't.
My daughter her husband and unvaccinated baby all had it last week . It was no more than a cold. As it’s now endemic we should really stop testing for it . It’s like testing for the cold , or flu . What’s the point ? People are no longer self isolating with it and like it or not , unless we stay away from the world there’s no way to avoid it. There won’t be another ‘ wave’ because we’re in an ocean full of it as we have always been with other infections.
I'm still testing for it because I might be eligible for anti-virals and those I work with closely are also testing on my behalf although I haven't specifically asked them to. I'm planning to test later this morning as I have the itchy/sore ears and throat which are my usual early symptoms of a bug (although I'm surprised that I can remember as I haven't had anything since before lockdown!) I'm not particularly worried about getting it and am just taking sensible precautions but personally I prefer to know if I do get it.
I definatly qualify for the anti virals as had an infusion in January and I'd had 4 jabs with the 5th following in February. Still I'm negative but I do have a tickle and tbh without knowing about Covid I'd probably not worry. I've been really careful too.
Sorry to hear your husband has tested positive again, keeping everything crossed you stay negative x
We went on a weeks cruise 3 weeks ago. Came back, tested and hubby was a definite thick red line positive. I was negative. My sister and bro in law went with us, he tested positive she didn’t like me. I put hubby in the spare room, disinfected the loo every time he used it etc. neither me nor sister got it. We are calling it man COVID. 🤣 we’ve both all been jabbed, them 3 times me 4. I did have a thought, we both have RA and were having little flares on the cruise. As that is because of an overactive immune system is it possible that with it being ‘overactive’ did it make the jabs protect us more… weird thought I know…but who knows.
Keep well🥵
I never stopped wearing a mask.
All I can add is that I have had COVID twice and both times it was very minor cold like symptoms and wouldn't have bothered testing if i had not been in contact with someone who tested positive. For me at least (and most of the people I know who have had it) COVID really is nothing to worry about.
