With info about measles cases increases I wondered if anyone had experience of being vaccinated against measles since RA diagnosis. I thought I was vaccinated as a child (pre MMR vaccine) but GP doesn't have a record of it.Thanks in advance for any info

Do you remember if younhad measles as a child? If you did it’s likely you have lifelong protection…& tbh pre the MMR scare most kids got vaccinated with no problems.

Try asking your practice nurse if adults are being vaccinated atm…making sure you tell what drugs you are on,

I had the job and yes when it came out it wasn't part of usual ones. My son had his and I think I paid for it privately and as I'd not had measles either our GP said roll up your sleeve. This was about 35 years ago or a bit more. I only got Chicken Pox as an adult too. !lol

The MMR vaccine is a live vaccine and if your anti tnfs your not suppose to have live vaccines. I'm not sure about mtx.

Thank you.....I've always been advised to avoid live vaccines. Hadn't realised the measles one is. I'll give the nurse line a call

I was offered it by a nurse at my GP surgery a few years ago. I told her I couldn't have it, she said I could. I refused to have it done and she said she'd get a senior nurse at the practice to phone me. Guess what?? When she phoned she apologised to me and said I was right.

They do an MMR screening if you are pregnant to see if you are immune to measles, mumps, and rubella. If you have kids you have likely had this and if not ask to have one now to relieve your worries.

Interestingly, when I was pregnant my midwife said you have immunity to rubella, so I said yes, I had it as a child so likely to have life long immunity. People that have the vaccination don't always have life long immunity.

She said oh, that's why the woman before you wasn't immune and has to have the jab. I was sure she was with her first pregnancy, as was she, we were beginning to question our memories!

This is why despite vaccination evidence they always test women with each pregnancy!

I've had measles twice. First time I was 6 second time around 11. First time my mum couldn't wake me up one morning, called the doctor who said I was just sleeping it off. My mum who normally didn't say boo to a goose challenged her and said she wanted a second opinion. Long story short I had encephalitis and ended up in a coma for two weeks in an isolation hospital. My parents at the time were told I had a 50/50 chance of living. This was in 1963. I've read since that the author Roald Dahl's daughter had the same as me aged 7, she died. I think that with measles being classed as a child's illness and over recent years not caused a problem due to vaccinations some parents don't realise just how serious it can be.

Yes I also had it twice as a child, which really surprised the GP visiting me at home. You can guess that was long ago …

It's not even on my medical notes that I've had encephalitis. The GP at fault there I'm afraid.
