Really??

Happy Saturday everyone!

Following on from me having the flu vaccine a couple of weeks ago, I was advised to have the girls vaccinated too. This is due to my vulnerabilities and having had to shield, couple with the fact I am a frontline/ essential worker.

I took them today and when there, we were advised that we would get a letter, sometime from January- end of February, with an appointment for the covid vaccine.

Had anyone else been advised of this??

Wow, never heard of the Covid vaccine going to the point of actually giving the vaccine....just some murmurs in the press, but nothing definite.

Couldn’t tell you how surprised I was? It seemed to be that it is linked to vulnerable people/ frontline workers and their families - but I didn’t ask as I was so stunned to hear it??

Oh ! I so hope so, like Mmrr, I’v only heard rumours, in fact I heard one report could be before Christmas. My ears prick up when I hear Covid vaccine. Fingers crossed, your surgery must know something. I hope you are keeping as well as possible Marie. X

It would be the ultimate Christmas gift for the World, wouldn’t it?!

I’m good thanks. Hoping you’re doing ok too x

I missed having surgery on my back, so struggling with that. I wouldn’t have wanted to be in hospital, had they gone ahead in April as planned, so all hopes pinned on next year. I have an appointment with the National Royal Orthopaedic Hospital in January, so long as not cancelled. Take care Marie. X

There is no two ways about this whole time, people have suffered in the most desperate ways, either directly / indirectly as a a result of covid.

I pray all goes well for you and things go ahead as scheduled x

Thank you so much, as you know only too well waiting for much needed ops are a trial. I have friends in the same boat, one friend is in a mental unit at present as it got so much to bare, the pain killers caused constant stomach issues. They have helped her cope so fingers crossed she will be allowed home soon, with support. We must look forward and hope the vaccine is ready very soon. X

Good news if it's true! Are you by any chance an essential worker? e.g. teacher, nurse?

Yes, I’m a social worker

I think that may explain it then. The rest of us had better not get too excited!

I admit I thought anyone in the household of someone who was eligible for the flu vaccine also was vaccinated. Glad your girls are now. That's the first solid proof I’ve heard that a COVID vaccine is imminent. You're right, it will the ultimate Christmas gift for the world, & it's only right those on the front line are vaccinated first. We'd be lost without them. Champions, all of you.🏆

I’m holding on to it with a sense of caution- let’s hope it happens , and everyone else is done very quickly after .

Hope you’re doing ok?

Really? Would you be happy for you and your family to have it? Not sure I would to be honest. That's been rushed along suspiciously fast! The last vaccines that were rushed through caused some devastation.

Wishing you well.

Eiram50 profile image
Eiram50 in reply to

Yes. I absolutely would.

Absolutely understand your observation about it being rushed. Equally, I don’t think we’ve ever had a global effort with regard one singular vaccine.

in reply toEiram50

Sorry edited my message as you replied.

Your choice. I'm all for choice. I hope those of us not wanting it won't be coerced into it. Awful lot of that going on atm. 🙄

Eiram50 profile image
Eiram50 in reply to

I don’t believe anyone, ever, should be coerced into any sore of vaccination.

It should always be a choice.

You were right first time...tis sore!😂

I agree. I'm not anti vaccines. I've had them, and my son had them as a baby. This one is a no from me.

Since having a brain bleed earlier this year and with the RA and dodgy chest etc. They rated this old 74 year old as at extreme risk. I am happy to be locked away a bit more and don't want to be an experimental 'vacine taker'. Perhaps when they know it works.

in reply toBandido

I can totally understand that. I hope you are not totally isolated though.

The last vaccine they shipped out in a hurry caused narcolepsy in kids!

It was in the news at the beginning of the week that GPs have been asked to prepare to start vaccinations for COVID from December. I assume the government/ health advisors must be reasonably confident to issue that advice.

Of course vaccines are your choice. I was at my rheumatologist on Friday. My favourite nurse told me a lot of the hospital staff are on the trial and she can’t wait to take it. My friends daughter in law works in a lab abroad where they are working on COVID vaccines and they also get the data from all the trials. The Oxford one is way out in front.

Remember this we all take the flu vaccine and it is different each year, so you folk who are quick to say I’m not taking it well you don’t object to that one, sometimes you even get a touch of flu after it, but I don’t hear you jumping and saying I’m not taking that. Realistically we are already going to have an earlier life span than most due to RA, I would rather mine wasn’t caught short with COVID or that I spend the rest of my time wrapped up in cotton wool afraid to go out, just saying .....

Eiram50 profile image
Eiram50 in reply toKnit12

I did not understand this as a “trial”. My understanding is that this particular vaccine has been through the processes and been deemed safe. I also understand that there remain some questions regarding its efficacy, in so far as, there is no certainty around how long it will last?

in reply toKnit12

I do object to flu vaccines actually. My body my choice what I put into it. I review all medicines before I take them. I have had a bad flu once when I was 20. I'm now 59. I might get a bad flu that wipes me out, equally I might fall over and crack my skull when out walking the dog. I measure risk all the time.

What other people do is entirely up to them. As far as I'm concerned the reasoning behind taking this vaccine is sketchy at best. I quite understand people will disagree with this, but this is my view. I am not nor have I been afraid of the virus. I take reasonable precautions as I've always done. I stay away from folks most of the time anyway. The government have done an amazing job at terrifying people!

One more thing. It bothers me greatly that they are bringing in the army to test people. Never in peace time! Also really worried about the behaviour of the police right now. I'm surprised more folks are not concerned about this.

Eiram50 profile image
Eiram50 in reply to

Absolutely agree- your body, your choice. I would stand by that 100%.

Not a fan of the government, but if anything, I think there have been times when they’ve actually underplayed the seriousness of covid- prioritising other things.

I think as with anything, until you’ve been touched by this virus, until you’ve lost someone to it and watch the agony of that passing, it’s difficult to fully know the severity and cruelness of it.

I think that’s just human nature.

My understanding of the army being brought in, is to utilise bodies for a quicker rollout - but I could well be wrong.

And, in Scotland, I have to say that I believe the police have taken a very measured approach, given the additional powers they have.

Again, just my view and we are all entitled to express our view and respect that others views may not align with ours - but that’s a choice

in reply toEiram50

I have both had the virus and lost a dear friend due to the Draconian measures enforced.

The government have admitted that their stats are wrong and that the PCR testing is worse than useless. This is not Ebola. In fact it's a 98.5 recovery, if you get symptoms at all. The high risk groups are those in their 80's. and that is the same with all virus illness. The government has destroyed small businesses...why? Introduced the most nonsensical dictats. This is totally inhumane. Mainstream media is not showing the appalling police behaviour. This will not end well.

Whilst I absolutely understand what you are saying, and I am sorry for your loss, I think we have to agree to disagree.

Take care

Oh gosh, that’s interesting.

At my hospital appt last week, there were loads of people for the Novavax vaccine trial. I googled it afterwards and they’ve moved through the initial phases, it sounds hopeful. Fingers crossed!
