Covid is lasting a long time this time round

Today I’m day 16 of testing strong positive. I caught covid visiting my hubby in hospital. I wore a mask when I visited and sanitised my hands but still caught it. My GP thinks I’ve had 2 strains as I’ve had 2 lots of symptoms. I visited the hospital on the Saturday afternoon, hubby was told that evening by a nurse that there were 2 people on the ward with covid so I didn’t visit again. I was aching and had diarrhoea on the Monday and tested positive. These symptoms lasted 4 days, on days 6 and 7 the test line was weak and I thought it was going. My hubby came home from hospital when I was day 5, He tested positive and had different symptoms, he had a cough, runny nose, sneezing and chills. My test on day 8 was really strong again and came up almost straightaway then I started with the same symptoms as hubby.

I didn’t manage to get the antivirals in time and I really wish I had. I spoke to my GP yesterday to ask how long I will be infectious for as I’m still isolating and she was unsure. She thinks I’ve been unlucky and had 2 strains one after the other with having different symptoms and my test results being weak then strong again. She told me to count 10 days from when my 2nd lot of symptoms started. I just want to start my Baracitinib again because my fingers and wrists are starting to flare. I still have mild symptoms and feel so tired.

So sorry to hear this and hope that before long you will be free of this virus (and how it has affected you) which sounds awful and are able to start your meds again. Take care xx

I had Covid 3 weeks ago (for the 2nd time) that fortunately was nothing worse than a cold and it lasted about 8 days … although like you, half way through the test line became very faint and looked like it was going, but the next day was a a very positive/black line again ?! Our local GP surgery says they’ve seen a lot of this behaviour just recently.

I didn’t bother with antivirals this time because they made me feel so much worse the first time I had Covid. They gave me chronic diarrhoea …. Never a good combination with a cough 😬😆

I do hope you start to feel better soon.

Unfortunately rebound or secondary infections are quite common with covid. I managed 3 days of a 5 day course of antivirals and my symptoms were much improved even though the antivirals were intolerable. Then two weeks after testing negative twice I tested positive again. Fortunately for me the secondary infection only lasted for a few days. You seem to have got a short straw with covid but with any luck you’ll be negative again in a few more days and start to recover keep your GP informed if they’re not already keeping an eye on you. Feel better soon.
