Covid19 Test Positive

My mother-in-law who’s 95yrs old was admitted to hospital yesterday with an ongoing problem of low potassium levels. A routine covid19 test came back positive (she has no symptoms) SHOCKED!!!!! How can this happen when the whole sheltered lodge she lives in has been on lockdown for over two weeks with only carers allowed in their rooms. The sooner frontline worker are tested the better, as some of these workers could be potential carrier’s and not know it. 🤗X

Gosh that's so awful. It's such a hard thing as some people dont know they have the illness so it's easy to pass on, yet others get very sick. I hope she makes a quick recovery from her covid and her potassium levels. Yes testing now needs to be done ....

Yes these poor frontline worker are going home to families and hoping that they not passing this nasty virus on. With testing hopefully there will be some assurance and peace of mind.

Been informed this morning she’s sitting up in bed and looking a lot brighter. We can only hope for the best and prepare for the worst at her age. Stay safe 🤗X

There are probably many people who are carrying the virus and don't have the symptoms. Without testing and contact tracing we don't know who they are. The good news is that you are unlikely to have a severe illness in that case - or it might just be that you have been contaminated recently but not yet developed the illness.

We have no idea how frequent the illness is in this country as the only people that we can test are those going into hospital - we don't have the capacity to test others, including staff in hospitals, care homes and the ambulances that take them from one to the other.

I think we are lucky to have amazing scientists in this country and I'm hoping they will be the ones to sort treatments or a vaccine!

This country doesnt have lots of diagnostic labs unlike Germany but Germany dont have the same research scientists we have. Also we were late in the loop getting the virus to our country so other countries got in first to buy tests and reagents.

That does put us at a disadvantage but I would rather the tests they are using font give false negatives( one of the first ones gave 2 out of 3 false negatives maybe why some countries got false results.) Maybe why our government was slower of the mark.

I hope they can now get on with it for all our sakes. It us a hard, concerning and anxious time and i just hope our wonderful scientists all over the world work together to get this under control.

Very sorry to hear that and just shows how easy it is to catch this virus,I’m panicking as well because my wife works in an old folks home and I’m panicking that she brings it home unknowingly xxx

I do hope your Mother-in-law does well. Her being poorly and being in hospital must be so frightening for you all. Yes, more testing is essential for every healthcare provider but with the current situation I expect there to be a prioritising system in place

Yes your right these carers need protection so they can carry on without passing anything on , I do hope your grandmother is going to be ok x

That is very difficult.. asymptomatic cases slip through and perhaps spread it, not sure if that is how it works but there’s much we don’t know about this virus.

Someone must have brought it, you are right.

What are they doing about this? Poor lady, probable isolation.

I am so sorry to hear this and send my wishes to your mother in law and yourselves. As others have said sadly some people are showing no symptoms and this is how even in a lock down situation this virus is still getting through. I saw on the news last night in one care home some dedicated carers are not going home and are sleeping in some makeshift units in the car park in the home grounds. Which can't simply be the case for all carers and homes to be able to do or facilitate this. I understand there appears to be a shortage in some places of protective equipment too, so this only adds to the frustrations of trying to protect a vulnerable population of people and the carers themselves. A difficult situation for all concerned, take care xx

That is the trouble & why it is so important we take great care...the person we walk past in the park could be a carrier.....or we could be carriers ourselves.

Right now, only people who demonstrate symptoms are tested.

The sooner wider testIng is available the better.

Thank you to all that replied, and yes it is a worrying time for us all but she seem to be doing well with her potassium treatment and still showing no symptoms of the virus. She has been put on a ward with other covid19 patients but it’s seems those on one side are with symptoms and those showing no symptoms are on the opposite side, keeping fingers crossed for a good recovery, thanks again, stay safe 🤗X
