What next after a Positive Covid result on Hubby

Apologies as I will probably be asking questions that have been asked before, time and time again. We should be off to Portugal tomorrow but husband just tested positive .So holiday cancelled and money lost as its a time share, But question is who do you ring for the antivirals. I rang my surgery today and the result of that was when you get your positive PCR results that NHS England tell you with that result what to do. Is that correct ?. The surgery did know you have 5 days to start treatment after a positive test. I have had 3 jabs, the last being the beginning of October. I am CEV. Not positive at the moment and just keeping fingers x for next 5 days..I know some have had 4 jabs..But I have not been called up. I am on Olumiant for RA and a a beta blocker for past heart failure that was caused long term use of an Anti TNF drug.. Thank you..

Ok. Try rheumatology. Someone on here got antivirals on a positive lateral flow. You also need to be proactive in booking your fourth jab. You can do it on line or 119. You’ll need a letter from rheumy which says you are immunocompromised. I too am on Baricitinib. Had my 4 jab this Saturday just gone.

I have contacted my RA Team and waiting for them to call me back to advise. TY

My rheumatology nurse told me I needed to call them if I needed the medication. Hope you get it sorted. X

Thank you I have done that and awaiting their response.

You should be automatically contacted within 24hrs of a positive test. If you don’t hear then GP or 111 will refer you to the local CMDU unit. Unfortunately you can’t set it up prior to testing positive, so even your rheumatology team will only be able to say ring back if positive. If your meds are only organised via the hospital and not on your gp repeat prescription for information then your rheumy will need to refer you, otherwise gp can do it.

Wow thanks for this information x

Meant to attach a copy of the letter sent to GPs explaining their role in referring and how to refer.

Thank you. I have called 119 , now going to GP surgery to talk face to face with the Receptionists who fobbed me off yesterday saying track and trace will contact me but I need to go on the list in first place. Rheumatology clinic might not get to me for a couple days. This a nightmare as just want to be ready should I test positive.

My understanding is GPS can’t add you to the list they can only ensure your coded correctly. However people late being coded need to just get referral done when positive result comes through, is what I read from NHSE. NHSE are the people who sent out the priority packs based on nhs digital information. The letter though tells them how to refer you if needed. 🤗

Careful. It’s not automatic I don’t think unless you have received a priority test kit ‘in case. ‘. 119 know nothing about my immunosuppressed status and can’t send me the right kit.

I got the Antivirals as on the CEV list on a positive lateral flow test. I spoke to GP who contacted the Covid Virtual Ward and the Covid team at the local hospital it was quick. I had 4 jabs. I was told that they are doing the infusions on the lateral flow tests as 98 % accurate now. (Covid Consultant at hospital) . And my husband got it has only a minor cough and would not have known it was covid had I not had symptoms.

Hi just thought I’d comment. My husband tested positive for COVID as did my stepdaughter, her daughter and my step grandson. I had been in close contact with all of them whiLe they were deemed contagious. My husband had had cold symptoms for 4 days he then went positive, the night before the pos result I’d kissed him goodnight( total habit, I’d not kissed him since he’d felt the cold and sniffles) unfortunately the morning he tested positive he coughed in his sleep right into my face😝. The LFT went positive that morning and I was convinced my time was up. I’m on rituximab, methotrexate, Ace 2 inhibitors for BP, I’ve not had my fourth vaccine, my first two vaccines were close to me having biological Anti TNFs and the second vaccine a few weeks after radiotherapy for breast cancer. My only vaccine clear of anything was in sept 2021. I started testing everyday waiting for the dreaded line to appear. It never did and I never got any symptoms. I don’t understand why I never became infected considering such close contact. Hope you are as fortunate as me. The funny thing is my family( son, daughter, grandchildren) have all been in close contact with the virus and have never been positive, even asymptotically as they test regularly, long may that continue!

You give me such hope as I too kiss my hubs goodnight. Its very difficult also living in a small flat with only one bedroom and keeping distanced. I have managed to secure my 4th vaccine for Saturday although will seek advice as I have been in contact with hubs. I just couldn't believe my hubs caught it just before we went on holiday. The only thing he did was visit a local football match and he was outside all the time.

If I tested positive I would record it on government website and then ring 111, not 119.
