Hi I had my first adalimumab injection yesterday at the hospital, although on the packet it says Amgevita . Was ok but not had much sleep with stomach issues. I sat googling what I have to avoid food wise on this med about 4.30am this morning! No wiser…. I understand about eggs and unpasteurised milk but can you eat yoghurts or crème fraiche etc. or bought mayonnaise as opposed to homemade? I’m not grasping it all. Think my brains taken a holiday!!
amgevita: Hi I had my first adalimumab injection... - NRAS
amgevita
This explains why it said Amjetvita on your meds…you got the right stuff!!
“AMJEVITA is a biosimilar to Humira®* (adalimumab), an anti-TNF-α monoclonal antibody.”
Give it a bit of time…..you were probably a bit anxious & that can cause your symptoms, if things don’t improve speak to your .rheumy nurse..but hopefully you will settle down soon.
Thank you for the reassurance. you may be right as I was a bit the same a couple of years ago when I first started Methotrexate.
Getting the flutters over a change or introduction of new meds gives RA a bad name sometimes. Try to occupy yourself doing something you really enjoy - so that you don’t have time to think that every little niggle that hits ..is the meds!
Hope we hear from you soon that things are going well.
I have been on it for about a year and had no problems
Adalimumab is the generic name of the medication. Humira was the original brand; once it was out of patent biosimilar medications emerged, Amgevita is one of those. I started on Humira in 2005 and was switched to Amgevita once the biosimilars came out. I eat yogurt most mornings and have never given a thought as to whether to eat mayonnaise. Didn't know it might be a issue but it hasn't been for me! I don't even know where to find unpasteurised milk these days, it's the nineteen eighties since I last had that. I've probably eaten unpasteurised cheeses without realising it though! I really haven't given it much of a thought and it hasn't damaged me yet. On the other hand, Adalimumab has been my magic medication allowing me to live life normally since I started on it. I hope it works as well for you.
Thank you for sharing that. I think I'm still feeling negative as I've been in a lot of pain as methotrexate not been working so adding this one into the mix hopefully will be the answer. good to know you have had a benefit from it. The hospital tells you to read the bumf and then you panic.
Hi.As you were on Humira since 2005 but "Adalimumab has been my magic medication" could I please ask whether you found Humira less effective?
I understood the two to have intended same benefits and negatives, A being a 'similar' of H, so just interested if you've found that not so. Thanks.
I didn't notice any difference when I was switched. I was one of the first people in my area to be put onto Humira. I used it until the biosimilars were brought in, the hospital then asked me to switch as Amgevita (one of the first biosimilars for Humira, both are Adalimumab) was a lot cheaper than Humira was at the time. They said if the switch didn't work I could go back to Humira. I was apprehensive at the change as Humira had been so good, but Amgevita seems to work equally well and the needles hurt less.
I feel sure yoghurt is ok (I have it most mornings) and won’t have caused you problems. That will probably settle soon. But I do try to avoid unpasteurised cheeses (blue ones in particular) and anything containing raw egg.
Hope your new drug will work well for you.
I was on that at a time. I just ate as normal. I do remember the brand I was on really stung. Hope it works for you.
The advice is to follow a pregnancy type diet, avoiding soft cheeses like feta and gii or are cheese, as well as blue cheeses, pares, unpasteurised milk and products containing raw eggs. Saying that I do eat occasional pate and blue cheese. I also eat shop bought yogurts and mayonnaise with no issues. I was advised by my rheumatologist to also avoid pre and probiotics, as we don’t mount the same response to infection.
Hello,
Amgevita has worked wonderfully for me. I’ve not restricted my diet in anyway (although hate blue cheese so that takes care of itself 😊).
Good luck & hope your new medication works for you too.
Hi
I think AC’s earlier advice that anxiety at starting a new med could be responsible for the way you are feeling and to give it time. Amgevita has been a miracle drug for me when methotrexate wasn’t enough to keep my RA under control. Have been on it for just over 2 years without any issues and eat/drink as I always have done which includes a glass or two of wine, all cheeses (inc blue), whole organic milk, pate, ceviche (raw fish). Perhaps I’m a bit of a rebel …. So take medical advice but don’t live your life in fear. Hope it works well enough for you to be free if pain 👍
