Zero neutraphils

my mum has been on Inrutinib for a little over 3 years. She was rushed to hospital on Friday … she had no neutrophils and it seems it isn’t an infection.

could be a side effect of the ibrutinib. ?

She has had intravenous antibiotics.. they aren’t coming back up?

Has anyone experienced this. I’m scared as they have said she needs to consult her team urgently. Do they come back up eventually.

Ibrutinib has been stopped. Everything else is fine. Not anemic… any advice would be so grateful.

I'm sorry but to my knowledge ibrutinib isn't used for Rheumatoid diseases so couldn’t say if this is a side effect or not. I'd do as suggested & your Mum contacts her team urgently as they will respond as necessary.

Being neutropenic will have an affect on her immunity so I’m sure all will be done to help. They've already done what I would have expected & stopped her med, but what else I wouldn’t like to assume.

I hope your Mum responds soon & your concerns are eased.

No problem. I'm pleased to hear that your Mum is showing improvement & hope it continues.

This is a possible side effect of this treatment and her dose will need to be stopped and possibly restarted at a lower dose after recovery of her neutrophil production. It sounds as if they are on the ball with investigating her but it is obviously very worrying for you. I do hope that she improves rapidly and you can have a talk with her and her team about her medications and what will happen in the future.

Did you mean to post this on the Rheumatoid Arthritis website?

Grade 3 and 4 neutropenia, thrombocytopenia, and anemia occurred during clinical studies in patients who received single-agent ibrutinib for B-cell malignancies. Hopefully they will rise when treatment stops
