Sciatica maybe

Well something was not right yesterday with my left hip doing it’s thing then the right hip (this has been ongoing for past year) and then lower back and bladder did it’s thing.

Today made a small move to get off the sofa and BANG pain beyond pain. Trying to stand or sit and now lie in bed hard. If I lie twisted seems to be calmer til I straighten out then off we go. Hubby knows it’s bad due to breathing and facial expression.

Could be a long night

Fatigue Horrendous and joints have been unhappy but heyho think I need to try to sleep and hope for positive outcome when I wake up 🤪🥲

Oh no. I have had sciatica in the past and it is awful. You have my sympathy. I hope it subsides soon. Keep resting.

It’s concerning that you also mention bladder problems. If you have problems like incontinence or reduced sensation of needing to spend a penny or opening bowels, you urgently need assessing. Cauda equina is a possibility and has a tight window period to treat it, before irreversible damage occurs. A slipped disc can cause it when the disc presses on the spinal cord. If you can I’d take regular anti inflammatories for now, and perhaps a muscle relaxant like diazepam or baclofen

They were concerned last year about it being Cauda but now a year so being assessed by Urology awaiting tests as do have a mixture of Cauda problems hence concerns last year. I think if I remember correctly I have one disc that is out a but (from x ray many years ago) so it could be it is this that is raising its head x

I’m glad at least Drs are aware and investigating. It is always possible the disc has moved since previously assessed. I have 3 slipped discs, 2 in my lumbar spine and 1 in my neck. The one in my neck is calcifying as I have AS, it slipped 11 year ago, and in 2016 was turning to bone. My last mri in Jan 2021 shows it’s now pressing on the outer part of the cord. I am waiting to see an anaesthetist to look at injecting. Although not sure how successful steroids will be if there’s a large amount of bone in the disc now. I get burning, pins and needles in my hands, and upper arms feel like that heavy achy feel you get after you have a vaccine. Hope today you find your pain is better, take it easy, rest in the garden and enjoy this good weather 🤗

Hope it has eased off today. I used to get crippling sciatica down both legs but Cimzia has stopped that, and I never want that excruciating debilitating pain again. Tell your rheumy.

Just emailed them funnily enough. I am just waiting for MRI appointment to come through and Uro Dynamics testing and maybe get some answers then.

Oh Deeb I feel your pain I can remember slipping a disc and the pain was excruciating for 6 weeks. It took my rheumy that long to be referred for a MRI and it was much better by that time. I’ve had back spasms since then although not as bad and long lasting the last time I did it just leaning over the coffee table to lift an empty cup off it. No rhyme or reason for it to happen but I’m pretty sure if my hips are badly inflamed my back spasms as a result. You definitely need to take it easy and diazepam has helped me in the past even though it sent me through a loop and I spent most of the time asleep even with half a pill was told to take two but I would have been unconscious. If it persists you need to contact your GP for assistance and get your hips checked again. The disease that just keeps giving eh might be an idea to get them to chase up your urology appointment again for you too.

Get a hot water bottle on your back asap. It will help with the spasms while you wait for any drugs to kick in
