Osteoporosis in hip/ any relief for it?

I have pain and worn cartilage in both hips and I recently asked the RA doc if I could get a prednisone or steroid shot in the hip—he said no as it's osteoporosis and steroids won’t help. I wasn’t offered any alternative & wondered if anyone knew of one. One odd thing: 3 years ago, a different RA doc said yes to both hips being injected. I held off as I thought I could live with it but now it’s much worse.

Thanks Amy—do you know if you have osteoporosis in your hips? I just didn’t know what I had—does tramadol cause you side effects? Better than other NSAIDS? Thx!

Hi, if it’s osteoporosis, have you not been offered any treatment? Calcium and vitamin D supplement plus usually alendronate? I get pains in my right hip area when I sleep on that side. Consultanrcsaid it was bursitis and offered me steroid injection but I declined. Contact NOS nos.org.uk/ for help and guidance.

Good luck

Thanks, do you know if you have osteoporosis in your hips? I guess the devil

Is always in the details! I’m going to ask about bursitis—it’s likely I have that too—the outer layer—

Thanks for asking—I’ve been offered Reclast—an infusion you take once a year and/or prolia—I have to pick one as my doc is kinda impatient—Im overwhelmed as Id like to talk about it—if you get ONE infusion for the year—what do you do about side effects? It’s too late right? It’s in you for the year( gulp).

It’s a difficult decision to make Wyaatch. Just make sure you have all the information you need both from the medics and NOS to make an informed choice. Best wishes

Thanks—it’s a bit difficult to get info from my doc—he’s more interested in me selecting a Med quickly—get back when you’ve reached a decision type of thing. Anyone take an infusion ( yearly) for osteoporosis in the hips? What recourse for side effects—nine?

I have osteoporosis and the pain in my lower back, hips, shoulders and neck is killing me. The only medications available are like zolidronic acid. They don’t cure and they are very dangerous medications. I had zolidronic by IV 5 years ago but after I was more in pain and lots sides effects. I have also fibromyalgia and others serious health issues. I live alone and I don’t have anyone. I worry because I don’t know how can will manage to do my things. It’s already very difficult and painful do also simple things. I’m desperate because tomorrow I have to see my hospital doctor to tell him my decision. Any advice? Thank you

That sux but makes sense. Just so you know I’ve had the hip injections 4 times over the years for bursitis before I was diagnosed with ra. The best result was very short term relief once on one hip.

Plus there is a limited amount of steroids you can have in u and at this point I’d rather save up for when I need the oral ones.

A knee pillow will give some relief when sleeping. It's always use it. Helps me a lot.

I have both RA and osteoporosis. My last bone density was bad. Doc wants me to try Prolia. Has anyone been on this drug. Thanks.

I have RA and Osteoporosis in both hips. Walking is very difficult. I had a few Steroid injections at first which really helped. Last time I asked for the injections again Rheumy said no, she explained that you carnt have steroids If you have Osteoporosis as it makes the bones even thinner. Now I am on Tramadol which just about takes the edge of the pain and Risedronate Sodium for the Osteoporosis. I sometimes take Diazapan before going to bed as it does help me sleep. Don’t want to take sleeping tablets. I treated myself to a scooter at the end of last year as walking round shops is impossible.

If you do find some kind of miracle painkiller that takes this horrible pain away please let me know, but I am not optimistic 😄😄😄
