Does anyone get a flare by just getting cold?
I had massive joint pain and fatigue Sunday and yesterday and the only thing I can think that triggered it was standing in the cold on Saturday. Feeling a bit better today but not 100% yet. Would be really interested to hear others experiences
Yes. My body doesn't like the cold. Husband thinks it's air pressure that doesn't help.
There is some research that suggests it is air pressure rather than temperature that creates problems for us. Sorry I don't have the reference for it.
We have a barometer and my oh monitors the pressure and he is sure there is a correlation for me. I just put it down to the cold but hay ho I can't change it. I think you are the opposite prefer the cooler weather????I know a lot on here prefer cooler than hot. I usually contribute to threads that comment on weather. It is fascinating or would be if it wasn't so blooming painful.
Yes
Yep. I mainly stay inside with Central Heating. When I do go out I wrap up well.
Even when I'm in and warm I struggle when it's cold
I agree. My sternum and ribs are hurting. I put it down to having a bad cough for 3 weeks, but when I looked back to this time last year on my medical records I had exactly the same aches and pains. So my bones do not like the cold and damp. When walking if I forget to wrap my ankles up well they give way on me too, same as my knees. Takes me ages to put everything on my bones to wrap them up to go out lol 🤦♀️🥶
Not really a flare but a cold in my knuckles does cause them to inflame a bit. I'm in remission with great medications that work for me but do take care not to get cold hands and feet. It's really only my right knuckles that are affected my left hand is fine.
I'm generally much better in the colder weather it is the heat that really effects my joints, causing them to be painful and swollen. I'm sitting here in Scotland, with wind and cold temperatures in a strappy vest top, with just the heating on in the hallway, no rooms are heated. Bliss.
Hello I live in western Canada and yes the cold can effect your RA especially if isn’t under control. The best thing to do I find when going outside during the winter months is to make sure you have warm clothes on. I always have long underwear beneath my pants to protect my knees, I wear layers on my torso( usually a long sleeved shirt, sweater and a warm coat). Also a warm hat and a warm pair of gloves. As for changes in weather patterns yes I feel them and my wrists usually flare. So I just keep them moving during the day. One ruemy told me motion is lotion. I hope this will help the next time you need to go out in freezing weather. Take care Ken F.
