UPDATE ON SHOULD I HAVE THE FLU JAB

Hi Everyone

Well I was still undecided on whether to have the flu jab today and in the end decided I'd go, tell them how ill I'd been and the medication I was on and see what they said and if I wasn't happy with the response I wouldn't have it done.

Explained to the nurse when I got there who said to speak to the doctor (who happened to be the one that rang me about the metoject injections a couple of weeks ago) as soon as I explained and he could hear I could hardly speak he said definitely not to have the flu jab and someone will contact me to rearrange, he also said he'd get someone from the surgery to ring me about antibiotics :)

I stopped in tescos on the way home to get some more benylyn as suggested by the doctor when the surgery rang me, I said I'm sorry about the noise I'm in tescos, the reply was oh so you can go out and about then! I said that I'd been out to get the flu jab and was getting benylyn as suggested by the doctor, anyway after asking a few questions she said as a precaution with the medication I'm on she'd get me a prescription but also said I had to do a PCR test, I said I'd done a lateral flow test which was negative and she dismissed this saying they don't work. So what's the point of them.

Managed to go to the walk in centre and when I registered online was asked at the end if I'd be willing to take part in doing antibody tests, which I've agreed to, not sure if it depends on the result of the PCR test but I'll wait and see.

Just wanted to thank you all for all the advice you've given x

It would seem that some surgery receptionists think they are medics!! 🙄

🤣😂🤣 definitely 🤣😂🤣

When I went to pick up the antibiotics (we have to wait outside our surgery) they said won't be long so asked if I could have a copy of my latest blood tests, this was 1.50 pm the reply was she couldn't do it & the lady who could was at lunch, I asked when will she be back & told 2pm but still can't have them as they're shutting for the afternoon for training, maybe just maybe they're learning about the third primary dose 🤣😂 x

Sounds like you went through a right performance yesterday !!! Hope you feel better soon. I wouldn’t take too much of that cough mixture because I’ve heard doctors say before , it can have a reverse affect.

I think lemon and honey in hot water works better than Benylin....

I always find benylyn very good on the whole but have also made honey, lemon & ginger to help, but think I've actually got a chest infection as coughing green phlegm (sorry sounds gross) hence the antibiotics I've been given x

I know how you feel I’ve had a chest infection for weeks and weeks on my 2nd lot of antibiotics which have made my tongue go a funny colour I keep having to go to the loo (losing weight) and generally feel dreadful so I’ve decided to stop the damn things I know that’s a bit daft because chest infection won’t go on it’s own but I cannot tolerate another week of the side effects of these pills. I’ve taken them for a week and to be honest they’ve done nothing. I’ve cancelled my flu jab twice and had to cancel 3rd covid (supposed booster but should be primary 🤷‍♀️) as well. Benylyn helped when I was a kid but have tried simple linctus this time, doesn’t work and you might as well give me an industrial grade laxative lol. Hope you feel better quicker than I do. I’m expecting to be told off by doc when I pluck up the courage to tell him. Glad your test was negative I’ve done 3 over the weeks and mine are all negative too. Long may that continue.

oh that's not good, can they give you stronger antibiotics?

I also take a vitamin D tablet each day as read on this forum how it helps your immune system, when I mentioned it to one of the medics over the phone back last year they said yes to take it, didn't stipulate which one though and have found there's quite a lot 😂

I knew my immune system was really low due to the mouth ulcers, sores on the tops of my feet and hands that have been there for weeks but getting worse and worse.

I keep getting reactions to antibiotics now too and the ones they've just prescribed me caused massive sores on my hands and made the other sores worse! Just hoping that as they're only for a week nothing gets so bad that I have to have a different antibiotic to treat the sores!! goes on and on 🙄

When they first prescribed antibiotics for the sore on my foot, I ended up in bed for 5 days feeling worse, spoke to the medic at the surgery and said I'm sure these were the ones I had in the past where I was vomiting blood, when they checked said oh yes I'll give you something else, these ones were giving my bile all day and feeling so sick and dizzy too, when I mentioned to the pharmacist about this she said yes those ones can have that effect and to ring the doctors to get different ones urgently as she saw my foot and thought it could go septic, she said there's 100's of antibiotics the doctor can prescribe, when I spoke to the doctor and he mentioned the ones I'd had previously that made my hands and foot worse his reply was what do you want me to do, I'm at a brick wall as there are no others!! On one hand I wanted to tell him what the pharmacist had said but on the other hand didn't want to rock the boat so he'd look stupid!!

It's flipping ridiculous that you have to accept what they say / do / or prescribe, if it had been a face to face appointment I would have said more but as it was on the phone with a really bad line I gave up.

Try Benylyn for adults chesty cough, I find it does help a little bit and was mainly using it just before I went to bed to try and ease it to get some sleep.

Hope you're feeling much better soon x

Yeah know what you mean about reactions to antibiotics I’ve been shipped to A&E having a fit for 5 hours on more than one occasion. The antibiotics I’ve just been prescribed are the ones recommended by microbiology after I sent a sputum sample in. The first two weeks the doc said won’t give you those because of the side affects and they put you at risk of c-diff and you don’t want that. They made me feel bad enough but these are another level my hair is falling out I’m deaf as a post have scabs all over my scalp feel violently sick can’t have dairy or caffeine because it makes them worse or increases the affects. So still coughing but feel much better now I’ve stopped taking them no longer spending most of the time in the loo and can at least eat something now. Unfortunately the immunologist I’m under insists at the first sign of infection I’m to have two weeks antibiotics and I’ve taken 3 weeks my immune system is in my boots so know I can’t fight it off myself. I’m taking a probiotic to try and get my gut back in a good place and that’s better, will start the vit D again soon but wasn’t allowed them at the time.

The latest antibiotic I'm on was the one recommended by the dermatologist, when he eventually saw my hands f2f & not from a photo the drs sent he was shocked to say the least, he said he'd never seen such a bad reaction & had photos taken of them, knew I'd be famous one day 😉 or at least my hands will in some doctors magazine 🤣😂

Maybe the ones recommended to you whilst normally are fine for most perhaps they're not for you.

Hope you get well soon & are able to have your flu & covid jabs

Take care x

Thanks didn’t want to have a moan hopefully your antibiotics get rid of your infection without shredding your hands. Sounds awful thought I was having a bad time with side effects but crikey that must be horrendous. Fingers crossed we both skip in for our flu and Covid jabs soon haha.
