Change in medications

Hi! I was diagnosed with RA 4 years ago. I have been on Methotrexate the whole time and on Prednisone off and on. I also have been on Enbrel, Humira and recently started Actemra. In May I was in the hospital with a Pulmonary Embolism and a DVT on my right knee. I was supposed to have surgery on my right knee but it got postponed until 8/16. I am currently recovering from the surgery and praying that my new meds will work. Lately, it doesn't feel like anything is going right. I struggle as I want to recover quickly and be mobile so I can help my husband when he starts chemo again. I have changed my diet but I am not sure why I have not been able to respond to all those different medications. Has anyone had to change meds so many times?

Gosh you have got a lot going on. Yes. I have been on 6 drugs (7 if you could different ways of administration!) before Baricitinib. None of them worked/side effects intolerable. Even subcut steroids don’t work for me now. You are not alone, keep trying them. My diet stayed the same. I don’t think diet influences your response.

I am so sorry. You have such a lot to contend with. Try to deal with one thing at a time. I know that is easier said than done but if you have too much to deal with you can't deal with any of it. I hope you get the right meds for you soon.

Thanks for reaching out to me. Sorry you're going through so much! A quick google of Actemra said: "Tocilizumab (generic for Actemra) belongs to a class of drugs known as Interleukin-6 (IL-6) blockers. It works by blocking IL-6, a substance made by the body that causes swelling." If you've just started Actemra, I'd give it some time, at least 6 months, before you see any substantial reduction in pain an swelling. Best Wishes!!! :)
