Well! I am beginning to wish I hadn't called rheumatology now. I explained my symptoms including some I won't go into here that happened just a few times a few weeks ago and she wants me to have an mri scan. She told me to make an appointment immediately with GP - I've already spoken about these things with him - the earliest I could get is tomorrow at 10. Not sure what to say. She mentioned cord compression.

It sounds as though you’re shocked at the suggestion of an mri scan, which is understandable if you weren’t expecting it. Whatever is causing your problems, it’s best to get to the source of it early rather than letting things drag on, even if you feel like a rabbit in headlights at the moment. Do try and relax as best you can.Wishing you all the best for your GP chat tomorrow. Take care.

thanks Bluesky - thought she was just going to suggest an increase in medication...

It's good they are looking after you, always best to get checked out rather than wait, although I can understand your anxiety.

Don't forget to take all your body piercing out 😆

At last Brychni, someone's listening and they are doing something about it. You've had weird symptoms of this and that for quite a while now - let's hope they can get it sorted. Good luck for tomorrow. 🤞 xx

Yes, you're right and I do feel that there is something 'nervy' going on and I can only imagine it is my spine. I will of course everyone posted!

Yes, please do - it may explain about your neck and shoulders too! 🤞 xx

Without wishing to delve into personal details, any problems with what I think you might be delicately referring to definitely require an MRI. Loss of sensation and control in certain areas are things to take seriously.

Don’t panic, but don’t brush this under the carpet. There are degrees of cord compression too, so could just be quite mild - like mine which is a pain and may well develop to needing surgery but not necessary right now.

yes - it is what you think - but it happened about a month ago and just a few times. I was out with the dog on each occasion and it was only when I got back I realised I'd totally wet myself. It was when I was telling the nurse about the arse/coccyx pain which has happened more frequently and is almost unbearable, that she asked a few more questions and ordered me (!) to get to the GP. When I wrote about the tail bone thing on here, I did go the GP and he just said my coccyx looked normal and to 'keep an eye' on it. So I am not sure what will be said tomorrow. I feel uncomfortable walking in and saying "Now look here: rheumatology have told me to tell you get me an MRI scan!" Why on earth can't these departments communicate with each other?

It seems bizarre that you’ve got to go back to your GP to request an mri rather than the rheumy booking it but there we go. As long as you get it looked at, because somethings not quite right somewhere.

forgot to say - I just put it down to age, because that's what women are always told isn't it? But actually I can tell the difference between not being able to hold it in when busting for the loo and not knowing that I have wet myself.

Just say that you think that your rheumatologist might be worried about spinal canal stenosis due to rheumatoid discitis, and list your symptoms.

just writing that down 😉 Wish I had the words - I often feel totally out of my depth or a bit ridiculous when trying to describe things. Thanks. x

Don’t forget the possible cord compression....

I agree with helix here too. It needs looking at quickly and I would even call the gp on their emergency number and ask to talk urgently
