Hi folks, I have been following this website for sometime now and love the help and advice given by fellow sufferers. My first question is regarding Tumeric supplements. The hype is that it greatly helps with all types of Arthritis as it has great anti inflammatory properties. I would like to ask if anyone has tried or currently taking supplements and if they have helped at all.
Thanks

Hi I had turmeric you need to get the high strength dose, be careful and check you can use it if your on other medications. I was on aspirin so had to stop as tumetic can act as a blood thinner 😊
I tried using turmeric golden paste for a while. It didn't really help, I'm sorry to say, but then my RA was hugely out of control at the time. It might be some help if you're disease is better controlled, maybe,
Hello Queensferry, My rheumy wants me on methotrexate. I tend to refuse. lol I found the truvani (bought online, excellent quality) brand of turmeric/curcumin pills. Three is the dose, I take two. I figure it's about 800 ml. My stiffness became much better and I've only taken it for one week. I also will take one celebrex or one ibuprofen if shoulder ache is bad. Then I feel like nothing is wrong with me. Although, I am still weak from the months of disease where I couldn't move very much. My walking has increased to 40 minutes a day without feeling like I'm walking through a mud swamp. I can move my arms above my head with a lot less pain now. They like to say I have Ra, but I'm seronegative. So, if anything I think it's PsA, esr's around 40, ccp around 2.5 Good luck.
Hi, I've been using this for years now, for me, alongside my other meds of course. I used to have to take up to 8 co-codamol tablets per day plus naproxen. Although my RA is now well controlled I only take the odd prescription pain killers when I have the odd flare up. For me it works really well and I won't stop talking it as I don't want to go back to the bad days!!
Obviously I have spoken to my doctor and rheumatologist and they are very supportive.
I take this and buy from Amazon. I recently had an operation to remove the trapeze bone in my wrist as too damaged by arthritis to be of use, and my surgeon recommended turmeric and black pepper. Seems to be of effect. My GP, at the same time at consultation prescribed Naproxen and that was accompanied by Omniprozle which does not suit me, feel nauseous when having to-take. Ot medical but i wouls say gibe turmeric a try, it is a natural product
Mixed reports received but might just contact my Rheumarology dept and get their views before going down that path. Certainly worth a try, glad it is helping you cheers
I take the powder in my instant Alara porridge and it's fine for me but my husband needs the supplements he gets from Revital online to help him as the supplements are more concentrated and dearer of course. Depends if you are good at swallowing capsules. I am not but Frank is fine and doesn't mind taking them and says he feels the benefit already. He was taken one packet of high strength turmeric and has just started 2nd packet - so quite quick. There are 60 capsules in packet - 2 per day.
Since taking it ( checked with RA clinic first) really works for me. I forgot to take it for 2 days and noticed a difference. Stiffness gone. But it needs to be with curcuma.
I was recommended Turmeric by a friend at my golf club who swears it helps with his arthritic knees. He ordered me some and I tried them for several months but they gave me know additional relief at all. I guess it may work for some but not others. Good advice given about checking taking any supplements with current medications.
I watched a programme a few weeks ago on the trial on Turmeric Supplements v Turmeric cooked in your daily food. The result was the group that used Turmeric powder in cooking came out top for reducing inflammation, not the Supplements. I buy Organic Turmeric powder. You can Google Organic Turmeric Powder to buy if you like and use in your cooking. Hope this helps in any way. By the way, I think the programme was Trust me I'm a Doctor, Michael Molesy??? Good luck
I used turmeric before I was diagnosed RA. I found it not at all helpful. MTX and sulfasalazine and prednisone are the movers and shakers in my disease. Although the pred. reduction I am doing means at 3.5 mgs there is no significant value to it anymore and I am trying to get to zero.
Sadly ladies I asked my new young doctor about Tumeric and Fish oil and a few other supplements .His reply was not one of them has shown to be of use to RA patients. I was also told by A and E specialist that One Date a day contains enough Magnesium for any adult but most adults get enough in their diet anyway. love to all suffering from this wretched disease.
