Tumeric

I am a skeptic about the vitamin and nutritional industry. All the diets etc for inflammation. However after reading tons of stuff, started taking Tumeric (look on line) twice a day. 1500 mg. Have no side effects but has been enormously helpful with pain and inflammation. Come to find out my doctor takes it herself and has her mother taking it in addition to her autoimmune drugs. Have been real blind studies with anti-inflammatory drugs that show efficacy. You need ones with high bioavailability. Does not work for everyone and those on blood thinners should avoid. It is the spice you use for cooking in concentrated form. I am a skeptic and getting benefits I totally did not anticipate. Just saying.

Hi Seaberry I myself take 1200 mg, have taken it around 18 months and must admit I feel that it does help with inflammation and haven’t needed any nsaids but I only have mild RD , (touchwood) ,but I also take pure fish oil and eat anti inflammatory foods also flax seeds chia seeds and hemp seeds and fresh ginger root most days so maybe a mixture of them all, I also stopped eating and drinking dairy except for butter on my toast but that’s just me and it’s seems to help ....

Like you I completely ignore diets & supplements, but tbh if my present drugs stopped working ....I would probably give anything not too awful a try!!

Yes I take a 500mg Curcumin Megasorb (Turmeric and black pepper extract) tablet daily in addition to the Truxima and Prednisolone prescribed by my Rheumatoligist. I'm seeing him again in three weeks and will ask if I should increase that dosage. I'm concerned that he will want me to start a steroid taper programme which may result in my inflammatory symptoms getting out of control again so I'm wiling to try anything to prevent that.

Tumeric works great along with black pepper so I throw some into my veggie smoothies and its deffinitly a help. You can get a big bag of organic tumeric powder from India at amazon for just £8.

I take so many supplements including Turmeric, fish oil, organic sulfur Boswellia and still on biologics and mtx. My RA is classed moderate to severe and came on like a steam train. Been taking them over three years now. Not sure if they do a scooby, but guess they can’t hurt and I’m scared not to take them now 😂

I’ve been taking turmeric supplement with black paper for months and believe it makes a big difference to my inflammation. I also try to incorporate ginger as much as I can, but juiced celery and cucumber also act fast to calm down my flares - also kind to your tummy as very alkaline.

Hi CagneysMum. Where do you get your tablets from and when you juice the cucumber do you peel it? Did you try the Paddison programme as well? Sorry for lots of questions! I’m thinking about doing the programme but it’s a bit expensive.

Sorry Kalimers65 I only just saw your question. I peel the cucumber because I find the skin a little bitter, but you don’t have to. Just give them a wash to remove any pesticides etc - organic is best if you can get it. I haven’t tried the Paddison programme but I’m an avid follower and reader of his work. Vegan seems a huge step for a meat eater like me but that doesn’t mean I’ve ruled the possibility out all together. I get all my supplements delivered via Amazon. I pay for an amazon prime tv package which gives me free next day delivery on any items I order through them. Compare the amount of curcumin in tablets and go for one with the highest. Good luck. 😀

I take Curcumin Megasorb by NutriAdvanced which was recommended by a nutritionist. But I’m sure there are other high quality equivalents available.

I’m not keen on spicy foods so prefer to take a supplement.

I think it helps with inflammation but it’s not a cure all.. I think a good diet high in fiber & vegetables plus taking turmeric can help enormously.. have also heard that “serreptase “ is also good for inflammation & pain.. I also take vitamin D3 xx

On my rheumy's advice I've been taking 500 mg. of turmeric twice a day for a little over seven months. But I can't say that it's helped me at all. But I'm one of those sero-positive RA people whose inflammation markers are never elevated. So . . . maybe that's why? I'm going to stop taking it when I finish this bottle, since I don't notice any benefit. But I don't doubt that it helps others.

Hi Pawz4me I'm also one of those RA people (seropositive, inflammation markers always 'normal' apart from high ESR) Last time I saw the consultant the appointment was quick and left me feeling that my diagnosis was being doubted, although she didn't actually say that 😒 she changed me from MTX to HCQ. I haven't tried any supplements, find it all confusing 😂

I'm lucky, JFlay --my rheumy takes my symptoms very seriously, and he's recently switched me to Enbrel. I'm currently on methotrexate, leflunomide and Enbrel, which is way more medicine than I'm comfortable taking, but I am finally starting to feel better. His plan is to eventually see how I'll do on Enbrel alone, and I'm happy with that plan.

I think my symptoms are taken seriously but I don't see the same rheumy every time, that one was frosty and I felt a bit lost that day having to come off MTX due to side effects. Maybe she was having a bad day.

Hi Seaberry

I found good trials done with turmeric curcumin and boswellia. I searched for alternatives to celocoxib in 2016 when I was on Methotrexate and hydroxychloroquine and prescribed celocoxib too.

I needed the latter after a year of uncontrolled RA. It left be terribly stiff all over.

I have aggressive strongly anti CCP RA.

GP told me to take celocoxib every day, so I was doing that for weeks before a review with Rheumatology.

But specialist told me absolutely not, must not take celocoxib daily while on those DMARDs!

Take paracetamol, 2 of those four times a day for two weeks...

So I tried that although not wanting to load more on my liver. Good relief.

Then I decided to risk trying the two natural remedies, as described in the trials found. I was so surprised that they did indeed work better!

Ever since, I have taken turmeric curcumin containing biopeperine, and boswellia, every day.

Sometimes I increase it to twice a day.

I need quite high doses; 600-800mg turmeric curcumin and 2000mg boswellia.

That also means I do not need omeprazole. prohealth.com/library/curcu...

I take turmeric in golden paste form. It has certainly helped with inflammation.

Hi! Do you have the recipe for golden paste?

Thanks

Maggsie profile image
Maggsie in reply toE_2b

Hi, mix 60g of turmeric powder with 1 cup of water. Heat gently and simmer for 8 -10 mins. Allow to cool slightly then stir in 70ml of either raw coconut oil or extra virgin olive oil and 1.5 tsp of fresh ground black pepper.

I personally add in 1tsp of ceylon cinnamon because my pee used to smell quite strongly.

There's a great FB group called Tumeric User Group UK, which has the recipe and lots and lots of great info including lists of drug interactions etc.

Hope this helps

I do not. I take capsules I purchase from Amazon.

I’ve been taking 1000g turmeric curcumin biopeperine for 4 weeks and I can see a difference less stiffness and achy joints. I was told to take vitamin D but have since found out it doesn’t absorb properly unless you take vitamin K2 as well
