Evening Everyone! Just a liitle moan if I may, as everyone else is fed up hearing the words "it hurts s much!". I have been on mtx for the last 6 years (tablets) which were changed last week to the Metoject Pen, I was also prescribed Prednisolone starting at 15mg a day for a week, then reducing weekly, so 3 weeks treatment in all. But I am really struggling with pain in my left knee, my toes and fingers, although the knee is the real problem. Although it's swollen, my bloods ESR are all fine and previous mri and xray don't show anything. I have been having to use a wheelchair when I go out. I use heat and cold, a TENS machine and take pain relief every two hours. I assume the Prednisolone will take a while to kick in? I used to have an injection in the knee, but the consultant didn't want to this time. I could just cry with the pain :(. Sorry for the moan, feeling a bit sorry for myself this evening!
So much knee pain!: Evening Everyone! Just a liitle... - NRAS
So much knee pain!
Sending hugs as I feel for you my left knee been bad started with OA had knee surgery and still bad. Bio freeze is sometimes a relief. Plus even if count low pain bad too.
It's miserable isn't it? Sending hugs to you too - maybe tomorrow will be a 'less pain' day for both of us!
I'm very accustomed to using Prednisone and I'd say the relief comes quick. The dosage you were given (15mg) is probably not enough to make you feel a nice difference in pain levels.
I've been recently going through a flare myself for the past 2 months. Initially I was given a medrol pack which is a 5 day dose, and I immediately knew from prior experience that wasn't going to cut it for me. So my rheumy understood and prescribed me 5mg bottle so that I could take 20mg and taper slowly. Now that I'm down to 12.5mg I'm stuck feeling more and more pain in my feet, knees, etc. So that tells me I need to stay around 13 mg until I feel significantly better, then I will lower 1 or 0.5mg.
I had tried to taper down too quick a few weeks ago and I found myself back at 20mg with not nearly as much relief. So it's very tricky. Ask your doctor if she can raise it for you so you can actually feel the relief.
This is my experience, and I'm no doctor. But a conversation with yours may prove beneficial. All the best!
So sorry to hear you are in pain with your knee and feel for you as it's my right knee that is a mess. I would speak with your consultant or GP and convey to them how much pain you are in. I hope that you can get something sorted out and no you are not moaning when you are in pain it is unrelenting and hard. Sometimes we need to let it all out and talking is good. Take care
I so feel your pain I know that one all too well as well. I did notice on your post that you use a tens machine I’ve used all kinds of things like that and they’ve made things ten times worse for me particularly when I had acupuncture at the hospital instead of switching the pain off it heightened it all over but I know that doesn’t happen with everyone just lucky I guess. The worst thing I ever had was a circulation machine which is supposed to help with lower leg circulation omg did my knees suffer with that one. A few years ago my ACL snapped after a very small stumble and during the physio exercises to get me back on my feet and walking again I found resistance bands were fab and I can on occasion use them still because they can help even if the pain is excruciating gently does it but strengthening the ligaments etc with resistance methods work for me. Only other thing I would suggest is the ‘R.I.C.E. Method which is rest, ice, compression, elevation but it sounds like you’re already doing that. I hope you feel better soon, nothing worse than having uncontrollable pain that you can’t get any relief from. Gentle hugs that you feel better soon.
Thank you Leics - I must admit the TENS helps whilst it's on, but feels worse once the machine is turned off. All trial and error I suppose!
Yeah can be an expensive problem too I know the vibrating massage / circulation plate thing cost me nearly £300 glad it had a 30 day return policy and I got my money back but oh my knees were sooo bad afterwards and I gave it a go on the lowest setting possible for a few days and didn’t overdo it. I hope you find a solution which helps you and doesn’t cost the earth or have side effects.
You need to get back, to your Consultant... IN The Wheelchair, to demonstrate just How Much Pain you are in Diamondpainting.
As regards 'Moaning' you Moan as much as you want/ need to! Without being Patronising- you poor Man/ Girl.
Quite frankly this is Deplorable.... Get on the Phone and Demand, politely of course, an appointment.
Can you let us know how you 'get on' please Diamondpainting- great 'name' by the way.
AndrewT
Thank you Andrew. At the moment it's phone appointments only so my Rheumy can't see me or my joints. I am going to ring the nurse clinic this morning. I will let you know how it goes! So good to be with people, such as yourself, who understand!
Just another 'thought', for you Diamondpainting, I wear a Magnetic Knee Support, just below, my right knee. I quite badly damaged, it in my Teens, I sipped and my Knee Cap collided with a metal nosing (😬). The 'Support' contains four 'Rare Earth Magnets', and is held in place by Velco fasteners.
I am aware that, whilst some people Swear BY, these 'things, other Swear AT them. Rather like TENS Machines, Accupuncture or Chinese Medicine- none of which I have tried myself. I can only tell you that Personally Speaking, I find this VERY Helpful- which is why I am recommending it. I think, if I remember correctly, it was around £18- £20, depending on where it was purchased.
The cost, of this Gadget, is about the same as a Round Of Drinks and it might, very well, help you. Worth, at least, considering?
