Hi guys not been on for ages but I need help and advice as it is really getting me down now does anyone know what this is I've never had it before in my life it's not anywhere else on my body except my other foot is as bad and I have tried all sorts of cream from the doctor and had antibiotics and nothing is working they have now said it's something I have to live with but it hurts to walk on it and it starts to bleed any help greatly appreciated 😞
Can anyone help : Hi guys not been on for ages but I... - NRAS
Can anyone help
I can’t help but so sorry. 😔
It won’t fix it but are you wearing cotton socks? I would make sure they don’t come in to contact with anything other than cotton and gently soak them in salty water? Sometimes creams can cause issues. HC cream for example thins the skin... not what you want to happen especially on your feet. Sorry... I’m probably preaching stuff you already know very very well.
Thank u xx
I would advise against soaking them if there is any chance of there being bleeding or open wounf as it might introduce infection. It is safer to gentle wash them under running water such as a shower head as the water remains clean and the skin is less likely to become sloughy.
Have you had a swab sent by your GP? It might be worth suggesting if not because it might identify if there is fungal infection present?
It looks very painful.
It looks like a foot fungal infection but couldn’t be sure. Your doc can’t leave you like that, ask to be referred to a podiatrist or dermatologist. Not right for you to suffer with it.
I've spoke to a dermatologist in but said I've had everything they can give me x
Do your feet sweat much. How often do you wear socks ?
Try sprinkling anti fungal powder in your shoes or socks before you wear
Them. But best to let the air get to
Them when possible.
A podiatrist is foot specialist. That’s a better option than dermatology clinic.
They used to but I'm only wearing slip on slippers xx
Ouch - that looks really sore! Could you have psoriatic arthritis? I have PsA and the psoriasis only affects the palms of my hands and the soles of my feet. Methotrexate seems to have helped to control it. But before I was diagnosed with PsA I was referred to Dermatology (after trying all sorts of creams for eczema, dermatitis, etc) and have had courses of steroid ointments, such as Dovobet, so a referral to Dermatology could be the best way to go.
They have said I've had all the creams I can have and they are just not cutting it xx
Was that the GP or have you seen a dermatologist?
Can go see them due to lock down but sent pics and spoke on phone he gave me some liquid tar to put on at night but I work 12 hour night shift as a key worker so can't put on at night x
I would strongly recommend asking for a referral to Dermatology and hopefully lockdown will be over by the time you get an appointment. In the meantime I would suggest regular morning and night moisturising with socks on while in bed to at least help your skin feel more comfortable.
Put it on whenever you sleep, whether it is day or night.
My suggestion would be to go to the emergency room and have blood work done to confirm that you do not have a horrific fungal or bacterial infection ! You don’t want to play around with this stuff too long if it is a fungal or bacterial infection. Believe me, I had a fungal infection in my mouth, terrible ulcers all in my tongue, inside my cheeks, gums, tongue was raw. Two days later it had swiftly moved down into my throat and my chest. Due to the swelling, my throat began to close up. Went to the ER and bloodwork confirmed that I was septic with a fungal infection, it had entered my bloodstream just that quick ! I was gravely I was beyond excruciating pain, the dr put me on a very strong iv pain medication, Dilaudid, along with very strong antifungal iv meds. I stayed in the hospital almost a week. Took about 3 days before I could eat cream soup and drink water at room temperature, as hot and cold stuff hurt soooooo terribly in my mouth, throat, and chest.
The dr’s telling you that they have done all they can for you, definitely convinced me that he/she does not care about your well being and certainly is not compassionate, allowing you to suffer like that ! I would never go back to that dr who just blew you off and hasn’t thought about you or your suffering since you walked out of the office or spoke with them via phone/video.
So sorry that you are in so much pain☹️
Sure hope that you find someone to help you quickly and that you will be feeling much better real soon !
I prayed for you ✝️🙏
Do you work in a healthcare setting like a hospital? Because if there is any remote possibility that you could contract MRSA into the wound then you need to not be at work or as a massive minimum get a referral to occi health immediately.
In necessary times, the condition of your feet as well as your being a key worker , would deem that you can have face to face consultation.
I had to visit the dentist for emergency tooth extraction also visit the RA dept for steroid injection.
So I'd be firm about seeing a specialist as others suggested.
Hope soon sorted hideous when unable to walk probably.
I have similar issues re hands and everything I have had thrown at me does not work steroids do a little or keep it in check but I don’t want pred all the time either
Likewise, I have PsA which originally presented as palmer/planter psoriasis. The outbreak on my hands was identical to this. Methotrexate did, initially at least, have a positive impact along with light treatment. Hope it improves for you soon
When I first saw your picture ,I thought Psoriasis ,it is very closely tied to RA,I have been diagnosed with Psoriatic Arthritis, and since being on Mtx it has made it a bit worse if anything.I dont have it on my feet or my hands but I have seen it on my friends hands and it looks the same as your feet.Let feet breath in open air as much as possible and out in sun for 20 minutes at a time carefull not to burn ,the sun is very good for psoriasis.May be worth a try.I also find Aloe vera gel very soothing on it ,calms it down.Good luck.x
I’m not a doctor but they can’t leave you. Have you tried bathing them In bicarbonate of soda it may just give a bit of relief
Hello Loppyloo, Found this on other health unlocked site, might help. Good luck. Palmoplantar psoriasis help

Hi everyone. I’m new to this group but not to Health Unlocked. I have had problems with the skin on the soles of my feet for a few years - very itchy and hot, scratching in my sleep, cracked/ peeling skin. I’ve seen doctors and dermatologist galore who couldn’t seem to decide what it was but I’ve finally been given a diagnosis of palmoplantar psoriasis. If anyone with this condition has any advice how to treat it or had tried anything which has cleared it up or even improved it slightly I’d really appreciate the suggestions.
Over the last 3-4 years I have tried every cream, ointment, steroid and moisturiser known to man and nothing seems to help. I had light therapy (PUVA with oral psoralen) in 2018 which did help but 10 weeks of treatment only cleared my skin for about a month which; given the time, effort and disruption to get the treatment, really wasn’t worth it. I also tried UVB treatment last year but this made no difference at all. At the moment the itch is driving me crazy and the only way I can get rid of it is to put my feet directly under the cold tap in my bath!
Thanks
This is awful. Keep plugging away at the medics. There must be something to at least ease the symptoms. I feel for you. C7
Looks like a type of psoriasis, but that would have got spotted by a dermatologist. I had a small scale version of something like that and I uses saline - then again this is not advice I am not a doctor - Your looks to widespread for saline to he;p but could be tried and foot kept dry - Feet are prone to get damp that why cotton socks are best - You would think medical science would have got that at least diagnosed in 2020 - good luck and try anything no matter how unlikely it may seem.
Sorry Loopyloo12 I’m no expert so will be of little help but here are my thoughts.... creams might be making it worse somehow.
Whilst waiting for further support possibly try warm water and a little bicarbonate foot-bath and gently but thoroughly dry them X2 per day. Spray all shoes (inc slippers) with an anti fungal spray. Drink lots of water. Put nothing on your feet for now and go for pure cotton socks if wearing them. Changing your socks at least twice when working to keep your feet dry might help.
Sorry I’ve no real answers and only the above suggestions.
All the best
Ali
Ps I think you’ve said that you wear bed socks.... are they cotton? Are your feet getting hot and sweaty at night??
My sister had neuropathy in her feet. ( and hands.) It was Chronic inflammatory demyelinating polyneuropathy. ( CIDP)
Her feet would burn, then blister, then peel.
She was under the care of a neurologist. She tried IVIG, but didn’t have great success.
It looked a lot like this.
Boy does this photo remind me of my late dad's feet. I'm no expert and would not wish to offer medical advice but he used to get fungal infections and I know it was a case of perseverance trying to keep the skin on his feet in good order. I know you have tried lots of creams already, but know he had to apply a thin layer of steroid cream for a short period of time, then after this had to keep his feet as washed and aired as possible and moisturised them with Hydromol cream twice daily. It took time and I know how as you say painful it was so my heart goes out to you. Please don't leave this and make sure you get some further medical advice and don't accept this is something you simply have to live with, keep persevering as this needs sorting out. Take care
I've not read your other replies so apols if this has been suggested. My brother in law had a similar looking problem which started around a year ago & nothing prescribed by his GP helped, including steroid cream, which bothered me as he was slathering it on & we all know what that could result in. I suggested he tried tea tree oil, diluted in boiled water, allowed to go cold. He's delighted at the result & I must say whilst it hasn’t cleared it completely last time he showed me it looked far better than before treating it with tea tree. He has to wear socks for work but I suggested he tried pure cotton & he says they don't sweat as much, I think it's probably wicking it away. Whilst being off work he's been in his Birkenstocks which will have let his feet breathe even more so are probably even better. My sister in law has thanked me, he's stopped scratching & picking at them!
Looks like rampant athlete’s foot...but obviously not .. I’d ask for a referral to a Dermatologist ASAP.......of course right now that might take time..but keep pushing.....you really can’t be expected to live like that.
I do think when something like that doesn’t at least start to clear up after a GP has tried......a biopsy should be performed.
Make a fuss loopyloo.... ..the sooner a Dermatologist sees it..hopefully the sooner you will get some relief.
Hi that looks terribly sore. I’m a reflexologist we can’t diagnose any medical condition but could advise you on what may help please could I see your other foot.
Have you had a recent flare up? Anything changed with your tummy that you’ve noticed? Sometimes the feet show reactions to trauma that we have been going through.
Hope I can help when I see your other foot.
I’m sorry I have nothing useful to add but just wanted to say bless you how painful for you and hope you can get some support, you can’t be left with such poorly feet. x
I hate to say it but I think a couple of nights off work is in due order until you get your feet healed a bit.
A neighbour recently showed me his leg which looked in a similar state and he went to A&E as he read stuff on the internet about possibilities it could be if he left it. He went in lockdown. He was desktop with really promptly and swiftly with the lockdown and with sincerity. If you are at all worried it might be an option?
Hi loppyloo12, it looks like Psoriasis to me. I had it for many years in exactly the same places and had many Puva treatments and medications that did help but didn't cure it. Then I had my first Arthritis flare up and the Psoriasis disappeared! Not sure which is the lesser of the 2 evils though! 😕.
As a retired district nurse I can add a bit. We found water tended to make this type of problem worse and also some people reacted to the preservatives in the creams used. We used mostly vaseline . Also known as Petroleum jelly or similar products with no additives, applied very frequently.
Good luck with this.
None of us seem to have a solution but lots of great suggestions. We have to be careful about our wording on this site. Let me put it this way, if it was my feet, I would put some Vicks vapor rub on a small patch a couple of nights In a row. See if anything happens. I have used it for athletes foot and a fungal nail infection. It is apparently good for acne too. I know you don’t have acne by the way but claims to be good for some skin conditions. If you google “uses for v.v.” It’s cheap as chips. You’ll be amazed. I wish you the best of luck. It looks really uncomfortable.
It does look fungal to me and with scratching soreness can become bacterial. You definitely need further assessment and more treatment, and cannot believe the Doctor said thats all they can give and no more options. Random question but do you wear crocs...I know a lot of hospital people do. If so there are many people allergic to them, try changing your footwear. You need an emollient...e.g. epaderm or doublebase to restore the skins barrier as well as steroid based combined with antifungal/antibacterial creams e.g. trimovate...all available from a Dr...in the UK. Good luck...
Reminds me of my husband's feet years ago - he was told it was 'adolescent feet'!! (probably NOT conjuring up nice thoughts!). He was told to wear cotton socks and shoes that let his feet breath. I doubt it's that but, have you changed your footwear recently, ie new shoes that perhaps make your feet hotter? Just wondering with the sudden spikes in temperature whether you are just getting too hot. You certainly need it checked in person though, feet are so important when working. Do you have a friendly local pharmacist? Ours is still willing to see people for advice and would doubtless look at your feet so yours may too.
Trust you get it sorted.
I had something similar on my hands , do you wear plastic shoes ? I think it’s some sort of allergic reaction my reactions were from apoxy resins . You maybe need some allergy tests . Put some nice creams on with the least ingredients possible and a nice pair of cotton socks day and night and get the dry skin fixed. If I could put a photo on here of my hands I would it’s not nice to cope with hope you get some relief soon x
Have you tried Homeopathy? It's non medical and hasn't interfered with my medications. I learned about 'Alternative Complimentary Medicine' when I was doing a childcare course. My son had a terrible rash all over his body. Nothing that the GP or dermatologist at the hospital gave my son worked. I mentioned it to my tutor and she suggested trying Sulphur as an alternative as it treats the infection from the inside out. I went to Holland & Barrett and bought a container with Sulphur30c pillules in it. Within a couple of months, my son's rash was gone. I have recommended it to many friends and they have found it helps. This is just a suggestion & I hope your foot problem heals.
have you used one of the foot masks? my feet went like that after i used one..i just kept putting e45 cream, with cotton socks, my feet are fine now x
have a look on the eczema site: nationaleczema.org/eczema/t...
It could be that, and there are other types on that site which might help to set your mind at rest.
But a consultation with a dermatologist would be best!
It looks like maybe psoriasis? Do you have psoriatic arthritis? I would certainly call my practitioner and see if you could get a virtual appointment if you are unable to get in. Prayers you get relief and answers.
I was on biologic Humira injections for about one year when I developed a small painful patch that looked just like yours on my right foot. Within two months, both of my feet had large red scaly painful lesions that looked just like yours.
After MULTIPLE trips to MULTIPLE physicians, and MULTIPLE misdiagnosis with MULTIPLE attempted remedies, it was finally diagnosed correctly as Humira-induced psoriasis.
My rheumy took me off the Humira and put me on Rinvoq and within 30 days, my feet were almost completely healed.
I was given a high powered cortisone cream to put on in the mornings and a Vitamin D cream to put on the wounds at night. I had to bandage my feet after applying each cream, so I went through boxes and boxes of bandages.
I feel badly for you. My feet were horribly painful while this was going on. Wishing you the best in getting to a quick diagnosis and proper remedy.
PS. I also developed the same lesions on the palms of my hands. And it was a dermatologist who ultimately diagnosed my condition correctly.
It looks like a type of Psoriasis or Excema. Ive had excema all my life which comes & goes. I have Dermovate cream for when it flares up but expect you have tried that. You need to keep it as dry as you can. It dosnt look infected which is good. I get double base gel on prescription I think when i was small my mum cleaned me with liquid parafin. I dont understand why you GP cant send a picture to Dermatology for advice. Try to call a Podiatrist locally for advice they use a lot of these type of products. that said you could do with a definate diagnosis. Its maybe worth e mailing a picture to Rheumatology nurse for their input too. Good luck x
I heard that corona virus can affect the feet, have you been tested?
This looks like a condition my late father developed on his shins a few years ago. It was itchy and scaly and driving him mad, with bits bleeding. I had just completed an aromatherapy course and volunteered to try and treat it. I made compresses out of cotton gauze and fairly soaked them in a combination of blue (German) chamomile oil, lavender oil and a smaller amount of tea tree oil. I thought I was in for the long haul but I was confident of some improvement and my father totally trusted me. I was amazed at the speed of what happened: within three days the legs had healed up and were more or less like 'a baby's bottom' ! I have to say it was expensive because German Chamomile is not cheap (the other two oils are inexpensive) and I flung it on pretty freely - used at least a whole bottle I think, may be one and a half. I should say that, although called 'oils, aromatherapy oils are not oils as such, and as pure, natural substances they have the benefit of not causing side effects sometimes experienced with creams. Also, while most aromatherapy oils need a carrier oil such as almond oil to dilute them, these three do not, although tea-tree on its own can sting. This combination is anti-fungal, anti-bacterial and skin restoring: they used to use lavender oil to treat burns in the war I believe. If you were to try this method, perhaps you could make insoles to fit in your shoes while you're at work (if you really can't take a few days off ) and also apply them when you go to sleep, tying them around your ankles.
You seem to have received very good advice elsewhere on here anyway - no plastic shoes, cotton socks (loose) , air, aloe vera to soothe etc . I really do hope you can get some relief from this soon as, although probably not in the life-threatening category, it is certainly debilitating - and the sort of condition that won't let you ignore it. Good luck !
I know a lot of people don't believe in it, but have you tried alternative medicines (homeopathy)? My son had a terrible skin condition when he was a teenager. Nothing that the hospital/GP gave him worked. He had skin samples taken but the consultants were baffled. I was doing a course at the time & we were learning about alternative medicines. I mentioned to the tutor about my son's condition & she suggested Sulphur pipules. You can buy them in Boots or Holland & Barrett. You take 2 every 2 hours (on the first day) & gradually decrease the dosage. Within 3 weeks, his skin was getting better. The idea with many alternative medicines is that they work from the inside out, rather than just treating the skin. I've recommended this treatment to many friends & they've had success also. I think anything is worth a try.
