My son just rang from Canada he is in self isolation. Started to cough and had a temperature. Work sent him straight to the doctor. They don’t think he has covid-19 but swabbed him gave him antibiotics a sick note and a mask and told him to self isolate. The doctors will call him in 2 days with the results . Work said ring if he needs any supplies. There have been no cases in his area.

What a difference to here

Hope all will be well with your son.

He’s young and healthy and he sounds fine. He is much better cared for there than here . If it’s positive he will go into hospital he’s been told .thankyou

I am sorry to hear that your son is having to self isolate. His work place sound very supportive which is great.

much better care than GB! am sure he will be ok. To give a contrast my young [11]grandson developed hi temp, headache, cough at 2.00 am today. His mother rang 111 and was told all 4 of them shd remain in house for 7 days, and to give him cold water to sip plus paracetamol if necessary. End of advice/ info. Fortunately his dad is a charge nurse , his mum chiro and knew to contact NHS employer , clients and schools. Fortunately we've only skyped them as him indoors is 80 v soon and i'm on an annual biologic. Child bride, naturally, Ho hum. xx

Poor wee fellow.. thank god his parents know what to do. my relatives in Ireland in their 80s are in total lockdown ( their children are all doctors and married to doctors) They can’t leave the house food is delivered to the house and left on the door step. Their children refuse to cross the threshold. They told me to self isolate and that’s what they tell their RA patients.

yep, we're in similar lockdown but well prepared as we often lose electricity if snow or heavy rain , so have a v well stocked larder and cupboards...soaps, wc rolls etc - can still remember the wartime childhood hunger in Dorset in 1940s. The wee lad was ski-ing in early January .. school trip, Italy etc so either long incubation or ???. He's quite cheery now tho'. His mum is v g @ explaining w/out panic etc..:). like me [ and most mums i think-hope] she'll do that afterwards... take care y'self xx

Hope hes okay. How are you doing?

in reply toMs-D

Thank you ... I’m ok not working it’s not worth it. . Only sanitiser the school has is at reception squirt when you enter and leave. Ridiculous!! I could have lied and said I had a cough but I told them the truth about my meds so need a doctors letter but Gp said NO!!! He has had no guidelines so I should just take extra precautions 🙄🙄impossible with 4/5 year olds. So I’m going to sort the house out a bit at a time.. no rush now and walk the dog.😁 what are you planning? X

Its crazy. Ive had parents bringing sick kids to school like im a free babysitting service 🙈. Some ppl are just so ignorant that sick tiny minys leads to people in high risk groups more vulnerable. Gp will not write a sick note or anything. Oh well. Time to declutter lol xxc

in reply toMs-D

Shalf posted a letter from the rheumatology society it confirms we are vulnerable should be sent out next week

it's because of misinformation. Many youngsters still think children do not actually get the virus! Plus the inactivity of this government to do anything gives them a false sense of security.

What was awful were the amount of teachers/children coming back from Northern Italy not being made to self isolate.

A child was taken out of school near me two weeks ago confirmed. no one is allowed to know which school let alone which town.

my grand nephew's school only put hand soap in the boy's loos last week. :O nephew said no one could wash their hands before then.

It is good he is there definitely better than the UK, I am also high risk & no advice here just have to take it on myself to decide when it's good for me not to go out. A friend went to work in Rwanda in January & she messaged us a couple of days ago to say they finally have it there..1 case, an Indian guy who flew in from India who was quarantined & the whole country put on lockdown...such a difference to here. Stay safe & be well everyone.

I live in Canada as well. The doctors here don't prescribe antibiotics for a virus so I'm not sure why the doctor gave him a prescription for one.

Also, from what I've been told he won't be allowed in the hospital unless the covid-19 is at a life threatening stage. He will need to self isolate instead. But, Canada is large so his province may do things differently.

Hopefully he has a different flu virus! And he recovers quickly.

in reply to

Thankyou his chest was bad so they gave him antibiotics... he lives in Alberta and loves it as does his brother their photos of Canada are amazing such a beautiful place. Stay well

in reply to

I live next door in BC. Both provinces are beautiful. You'll need to visit your sons (when the covid-19 is gone) and see it for yourself.

Hopefully the antibiotics work quickly for your son. It's not pleasant being sick wherever you live. Sounds like he's on top of things.

I've been self isolating for years, to some degree. Easiest way not to get sick is not to be near people. Hard to stay away from the grandkids though. ☺

in reply to

I’m definitely going to visit when life is normal again

Matt Hancock grrr I could shake him. Can't even answer a direct question.

This morning he said if you want to live then stay inside. Then why haven't pubs/clubs/cafes/venues been closed?

Because he said old people will get bored and feel isolated so will only end up going out anyway.

Is he for real?

This is about it costing them the least amount of money possible, so no lockdowns, no closures to protect insurers.

So all they are doing is talking (repeatedly like a stuck record) about what they will be doing but nothing being done, not spending a penny where it should be spent.

A few weeks ago they said will be testing 10,000 more daily. That didn't happen - they cut out the few they were doing and said only those sick enough to go to hospital will get tested.

So, we are in a situation where you self isolate until you can't breathe and then sent to hospital to hold your hand while you die. This country is so depressing.

I worry about family members who are very vulnerable, children too so have now stopped taking my hydroxychloroquine in case they ever need it.
