pre op drinks
Depends what surgery you are having.....many operations require pre-op meds.
Do they have a name on the prescription or bottle? Lots of things are possible, from anti-clotting medication to laxatives.
Nowadays carbohydrate drinks are often given to take prior to operations. It's all about enhanced recovery, to help improve how quickly you recover after your op. When my h had a heart op in 2015 he was asked if he would agree to ERAS, this included bottles of a juice, 2 to be drunk the night before & another 2 the morning of the op, around 3 hours prior. Could be similar? Were you not given an information sheet about your op? It should explain in that.
Not me, but my Mum (hip replacement) and my husband (colon surgery) were both given pre-op carb loading drinks - basically sugar water. They both felt it helped with their recovery, compared to previous surgeries where they had to fast prior to the anaesthetic (leaving their bodies depleated). Best of luck with your procedure!
None given to me for either knee replacement or husband's hip rpl. Probably a new practice?! Wishing you all the best. Make sure you do your exercises afterwards for a good recovery!
