Had pre op assessment today and swabs and ecg but after ecg nurse asked for on call doctor to look at I’m worried now but she did say she doesn’t understand them ☹️what’s going on got my op Thursday
Pre op: Had pre op assessment today and swabs and ecg... - NRAS
Pre op
They should have told you! She so does know what’s going on…you may still be OK. Good luck.
I think that's normal. The nurse is trained in the mechanics of doing the ECG but not qualified to interpret the results and they get taken to a doctor. Surely they would have said something if there had been an issue. Fingers crossed for your op tomorrow.
As a nurse who was regularly involved in pre assessments, some staff are not trained to interpret ecgs and have to get a dr to check the result. If there had been anything of concern they would have mentioned there and then, possibly suggesting you see your GP. I suspect that’s the case here. The nurse would be in trouble if she didn’t confirm the result and you turned up on Thursday and had to be cancelled. It would be a wasted slot, one that could have been given to another patient. That’s part of the reasoning of these clinics to pick up issues, and if it postponed surgery, quickly find a replacement. So I’m 100% confident there is no issue. Hope your surgery goes well
If it’s any reassurance, I went for a pre-op a couple of days before surgery earlier this year and had a similar experience. Then at the end of going through everything, she suddenly announced they would need to refer my case to the high risk consultant anaesthetist to see if it could go ahead; there was nothing at all on my ecg, she genuinely couldn’t read it, and the only reason they wanted a high risk opinion was because I said I can’t tip my head back fully. Op went ahead without issues.
I had a pre op ECG back in August and the nurse that did it said "i have to do another one thats straighter " I got a bit anxious and said "is there anything wrong with jt" and she said she couldn't read the results as not trained but the paper it was printed on wasn't straight 😅
Hope everything is ok, I would have thought they would have said if it wasn't
When I read your comment - at first I thought it was you who wasn’t sitting up straight enough not the paper running through the machine 🤣I agree with other comments - last time I had ECGs done the person doing them was a technician who was not allowed to tell me anything about them but on the positive side they didn’t leap into action and call the crash team either.
They went to the A&E doctor who told me that the trace was ok and the blood tests showed I wasn’t having and hadn’t had a heart attack or heart problems. She thought I was suffering from DOMS because of over exuberant Nordic walking the day before that caused the chest, back and upper arm pains and discharged me.
I looked DOMS up when I got home seems it’s a sports related problem - imagine me - a little old lady of 72 with a sports injury 🤣
I have everything crossed for you, now and on the day!
Good luck. Mine is on 19th! She was probably just getting it checked x
