Have posted on here a few times relating to gritty sore eyes, saw ophthalmologist and he cleaned out calcium deposits , but it was a bit of a rush job, as he had a waiting room full of people, but he gave me open appointment. Three weeks later I went back, as eyes still sore, he made a comment about how soon I had gone back and said he could not see anything in my eyes, then sent me to nurse for punctual plugs and discharged me. Had plugs put in and helped short term, but came out, had to go back and have them inserted again. I am using theoloz duo drops and decided to try Clinitas gel after someone on this forum said they use it, it was lovely to have moist eyes, and did make a difference, however a few weeks later my eyes are very sore, and I fear the plugs have come out again. My eyelids are sore nd eyelashes feel as though there are “bits” in them. I don’t think I should have been discharged, as my eyes are still a problem, gp has now given me steroid cream short term to use on my eyelids. Any comments welcome.
Sore eyes , STILL : Have posted on here a few times... - NRAS
Sore eyes , STILL
I found washing my eyelids with baby shampoo gradually removed the accretions stuck in them and stopped the bits falling into my eyes and irritating them. However, I have recently been told that this is no longer advised as it also removes the natural moisturising, (can't win). Personally I found this helped so much that I would do it again together with using the carbomer gel into the eyes which then lubricates the lids as well.
I also use drops during the day frequently to prevent me rubbing my eyes - which makes the lid problem worse. I have found the optician to be much more helpful than the supercilious and patronising registrar who seemed to think I was making a fuss about something easily controlled.
I use a warm damp face flannel over my eyes especially going to bed it gives me some release. Worth a go
I've never found a permanent solution for gritty eye, sorry. I use eye lid wipes from the opticians. Mine are aqua drop wipes from specsavers, but many similar available, like here
I had very bad dry eye which was ignored by my GP and rheumatologist. I then spoke to my optician who checked my eyes and immedietly wrote to my GP asking him to refer me to the eye hospital. Instead of using punctal plugs the eye specialist arranged for my tear ducts to be permanently sealed. It has been hugely successful and I've never looked back. I don't have sore gritty eyes and my eyelids are no longer red and inflamed.
I use eyelid wipes and eye mask that you heat up on microwave got them from the optician . The mask is very soothing 👀
