Gritty eyes

Help!!! Is there anyone who can recommend anything for my extremely sore eyes. Had referral to see ophthalmologist on 9th May but been like this since beginning of March. Saw optician who referred me as I have calcium deposits under eyelids. Doctor gave me “Hydramed” drops which seemed to help at first, now, they sting my eyes. Also given Vita-POS to use at night but cannot see when I have put hat into my eyes. In a lot of pain with RA at present, can take pain relief for that, but my eyes are making me even more miserable.

We can't give you advice on medication.

You could ask an optician or a pharmacist if they have any other suggestions?

I use lid wipes which I find helpful and soothing. My optician - specsavers -

has aqua drop lid wipes, or any chemist. Like this

They are over the counter things.

The optician recommended clinitas multi for me, which my GP prescribes. It works well for my gritty eyes. Non nippy.

Make sure your eye drops do not have a preservative in them if you are using them long term.

I was referred to the eye hospital who prescribed lacri lube. I use it at night and vision is very blurred but I put it in before bed. There is currently a stock issue but I have been prescribed an alternative but this stung. I also use optic during the day.

I use Hylo Forte and it’s wonderful - like a cuddle for my eyes when they’re gritty and stinging.

I use Thealoz Duo. Expensive but have it on presciption. I also use carbomer eye gel, which is not expensive, I buy from Amazon. Both recommended by my optometrist.

The only thing that helped me was a warm/hot cloth put on my eyes a few times a day to get the oils running. Also my mum in law has coeliacs disease and has awfully dry eyes which get terribly sore she found taking COD liver oil capsules really helped with gritty dry eyes, sounds silly but really worked.
