Anyone using a phone a lot should have a headset. If you can get a cordless one, so much the better.

I have worked in two call centre environments and got a headset for use at home when on longer calls.

Cradling the phone between head and shoulder is a bad idea, lots of problems in store if you do this a lot. If you are on your own the hands free option available on many phones is an alternative.

Reading your post took me back to the late 1970's when I was a GPO telephonist (it's now BT). The headphones we had were big black clunky bacolite type contraptions with a sort of trumpet horn that you spoke into! they were so heavy and got really hot on the ears! I'm sure my tinnitus started in that environment, I used to lay in bed at night and could hear the ringing tone! Loved the job though 😂
