Hi, I work 7 till 3 shift In work as this helps me manage my RA, my manager has just changed my rota to 9 till 5 shifts without even speaking to me and I I won't see her till next week, this has really upset me and is making me ill as I manage my RA better on my early shift. Do I have the right to ask her to change my shifts back to there normal times as I was hired on these early shifts and if she refuses can I Remind her that my illness comes under the disability act and that she should change them back as a reasonable adjustment. This is making me so stressed out, what can I do??? Can I just add that this shift is still there and because there was 3 people in at this time and she said she now only needed 2 people she went ahead and just changed mine. I am so stressed about this as it is going to have an effect on my health. Many thanks.

Hi I'm sorry to hear about your situation. You should have been consulted about the change and discussions should have taken place with you if you are contracted 7 till 3. Are you in a union ? If not speak to citizens advice bureau.
Good luck
Get correct advice but most employment contracts contain clauses that says employers may change hours and days etc to suit operational requirements, but that doesnt mean you shouldnt ask and dhouldnt try. I wish you the best of luck.
There was a previous post on here from someone in a similar situation. She ended up speaking to her supervisor who didn't realise about her health issues and they were really good and changed her shifts back. If not you could contact occupational health at your work or CAB or your union. I hope you get it sorted out x
Thank you all for you replies. xx
First check your contract to see if it actually states your working hours and the procedure for changing them. Even if they can change it they should still have discussed it first. Your supervisor may be aware of your condition but doesn't realise why those hours are important to you ( I also work 7-3). She may think that as it's the same amount of hours it's ok. Try the friendly approach first before you resort to union etc.
Most employment contracts allow for some flexibility as needed for the good of the company and business. I imagine if you can get a letter from your doctor indicating why a two hour time change difference is harmful to your health the company will have to make a concession for you. You will most likely need medical evidence.
