Diagnosis of MRI scan

After being taken unwell whilst in France in February with a flare up of Diverticulosis.

My gp wanted answers to why I was still feeling unwell.

Last Tuesday 11th June I had a MRI scan on stomach and pelvis area. The MRI was in place of having a CT Scan which would of included a Contrast Dye to which I would of had a Anaphylactic shock due to be allergic to a certain medication.

MRI included having to drink 5 glasses of Mannitol was ghastly to say the least in more ways than one!

Within 3 days on 14th June went back to see Consultant for diagnoses. Diagnosis

which is now Diverticulitis disease and not Diverticulosis also Inflammatory Bowel Disease which is either Colitis or Crones and not IBS as I once had. I will need at some point another Endoscopy. Since Friday felt quite numb feeling little low, this is unlike me.

Diagnoses I kept to myself until last night when I told one of my sons.

What I cannot understand why this has hit me hard. Having gone through 3 car accidents in 18months bringing on RA. Then developed Coeliac Disease which I took on the chin - but this seems to of hit me quite hard, maybe it's not know long term what to expect - haven't a clue 😢

Hi, I have suffered with Crohn's for over 50 years, so, in itself, the disease is not a killer, but it is an incurable incapacitator. The big question is how much will you be incapacitated? That, I am afraid is the 64000 dollar question. UC is more incapacitating, but can be cured, although, the thought may be daunting. I know, choices and problems seem great, but, believe me, you can and will overcome any obstacles thrown in your way, and with the help of the many people, on this site, and others, are only too pleased to give you help and advice whenever you ask for it.

Hi FRreedman,

Thank you so much for your reply. Having read yourself suffer with Crones for many many years, I now know it is not life threatening, I will need to adapt life similar to how I have with IBS. I hope once I get my head around the given diagnosis I will learn to live and cope as I have with IBS for many many years. For me it's coming to terms with being diagnosed another conditions on top of everything else is quite draining. It hasn't been that long since I've been able to get back playing a little golf after diagnosed with RA in 2016.

Thank you again x

Hi Pamelah5 - you have been through it, you should be proud that you remained resilient too. It can appear like one thing after another when we just want that break. Try not to over complicate things. Long term it is how you react. Set a plan, and know you are in control on how it pans out.

I shed many tears 😢 and would end up with even more aches 😬

Please know that you shall heal, it does takes time. You shall get there. Wishing you well. Hessie

Hi Hessie5

Thank you for your reply. I should feel proud of myself having gone through quite a bit.

I have always stayed strong whatever life has thrown. Since 2016 have faced many obstacles apart from health problems also losing 3 family members in 6 months of each other one being my mum, aunt and brother, brother a year ago today.

With these newly diagnoses I will carry on as I have. I cannot see what I can change with my lifestyle , I eat healthy even better since Coeliac 2017 everything's Gluten free.

I too wish you well Hessie5

Hi Thewhim,

Thank you for sharing what you have gone through. In truth what I did not know with RA that other things can develop. For me It's getting head round things, coming to terms, learning to adapt, as you said it is down to us how we overcome these obstacles. I would like to think so far I have done well, motto being "you either sink or swim "

Thewhim best wishes to you x
