I went for a MRI scan on my back a fortnight ago today and the rheumy said she would write to me about the results and the further treatment depending on the outcome. Have been waiting for the postman every morning this week but nothing has arrived. I am in a heck of a lot of pain with my back and desperate to know what is going on, just getting worried she has forgotten me. How long would you wait before contacting her ??

MRI scan, how long do you have to wait for results.
Hi Pip12, sorry to hear you are in such pain. I had a CT scan last Monday and saw my Rheumy on the Thursday for the results so I suggest you ring her to find out if she has received the results from the hospital.. Sometimes there can be a delay but it is usually through in 3/4 days rather than any longer. Hope that helps and you feel better soon too. LavendarLady x
Hi Pip12, if I were you I would contact her secretary and ask whether the results have been sent to the rheumatologist yet then you can go from there. The consultant radiographer will have to see the pictures first and will then send a report to your rheumatologist so it depends how busy he/she is first. Clemmie
Thanks for the speedy replies, I know they are busy and don't want to bother them if they are busy but when you are in pain every day seems like a week. I will give it another couple of days and then ring her secretary. Thanks once again xx
I had to wait 10 days for my results of my MRI on my back, but probably depends on where you live? I hope everything is ok. Rie x
hmmm, I had to wait over a week for the MRI results to be sent to the rheumy, and then a couple of weeks for the rheumy to look at them, and then a couple of weeks more for the secretary to write and send out the letter. So all in all it was about 5 weeks....Sorry! But no harm in asking. Polly
Thanks everybody, seems to differ where you live and how busy they are. I'll give it another week and then ring her secretary. Sorry to sound impatient, but just want some relief from this pain and to know whats causing it.
I'd ring right away. You have waited long enough in pain & are not being impatient. We have all paid into the NHS & should receive a better service, like those in the rest of Europe.
I waited a couple of months after my first MRI scan (I've had 3 so far and the last two I didn't wait too long). It is worth contacting your rheumy's secretary.
Thanks for your help, I will ring her secretary this week. There's no way I am waiting a couple of months trianon, that is disgusting to wait so long especially when your in pain.
Hello BOB here
Personally I would have words with clinic and GP.
One thing that may help is ask for a copy of the Consultants letter to your GP this is your right, once mentioned at reception you will get a copy of this letter, then you will have an idea when you GP will get His copy. So you can discus their findings together, as it gives a place of reference for the both of you.
Good luck
BOB
Hope u get your answers of your scan very soon xxxxA
My hospital MRI department has a notice saying results should take 2 weeks but of course, then they have to be seen by the Consultant. I find that letters from the hospital seem to take a week to arrive as well.
As others have said, phone your Consultant's secretary. They are always helpful and she may be able to move things along a little faster as well if you ask nicely! Explain the problems and pain you are having.
Hope you hear something soon.
