I am considering having dermal face fillers!!! I know sad isn't it. However due to being on methotrexate and abatacept and the fact that my immune system is lowered I have checked with GP and was told it "wasn't recommended". I don't want to obviously do anything risky and create problems for myself. I assume it could cause an infection.
Has anyone tried this and did you have any problems?

No it isn't sad. It's a personal choice and I hope it goes well for you.
I would speak to a reputable Aesthetic Practitioner about your meds/health and so on before proceeding. Would also be sensible to obtain advice from your Rheumatology helpline.
I was on abatacept but not methotrexate at the time I had fillers in my smokers lines and it was fine.I went to my dental practise where one of the dentist does all the cosmetic treatments.Prehaps it would be bet to go to someone with medical knowledge as apposed to someone it a beauty shop.Good Luck.
Hi, yes I'd agree about getting it done somewhere where a medical person is doing it. Like a dentist or a doctor. They're also the best people to know facial anatomy etc. I'm on adalimumab, hydroxychloroquine and been on and off methotrexate at various times in addition. I have regular fillers and Bo-tox and never had a problem. Maybe your GP was erring on the side of caution to cover him/herself. The person who does mine is actually a GP in the NHS who runs an aesthetic practice in his time off.
Go for it, I'd say.....
I always think, well, I feel knackered, but no need to look it!!! It makes me feel so much better about myself and don't let anyone judge you for it x
I have PMR and also wanted injections because I’m single and Prednisone doesn’t help skin appearance. My Rheumatlogist and internist said def not because of risk of infection. Please let me know if you do it and the results. I’m waiting 6 months after I finish Prednisone. I just started one half mg. this week.
I'm really sorry to hear that you think you need this. Please weigh up the pros and cons very carefully first. The main problem is the increased risk of infection, but if you do decide to go ahead, ensure that the person doing it has had adequate training and won't make things worse for you.
I can’t do something I want that has serious health risks. I presently have a virus that I can’t shake and has increased PMR inflammation and lead to other random things like an eye virus and cough for 3 weeks. Therefore, I’m afraid to risk an infection simply because of societal and self imposed pressure to turn back the clock on wrinkles. Hard decision but right now I think I’ll wait.
I'd tread lightly...maybe try a little botox, lowest amount possible, see how you feel for the next 2 weeks.
If you feel fine (or the same as before), I dont think we ever feel "fine," then try the longer lasting fillers you desire, and again you can take it slow, 1/2 syringe, etc at a time.
