Tender scalp!

Hi all,

Bit of a random post but has anyone experienced a very tender scalp as part of your side effects? I'm taking 200 LEF, 400 hydroxy, 10 prednisone and 1600 nurofen daily. Having bad flare this week but my scalp is so sore it feels burnt and can't even touch it.

Thank you!

Hi, sorry you're suffering right now. I don't wish to alarm you but I had something similar last year, which turned out to be Shingles! Hopefully it isn't but I thought I best mention it just in case. Is it on one side of your head? Shingles generally erupts to one side or the other. In my case it affected the side of my head, cheekbone and ear. If it's Shingles the quicker you get on anti virals the better as it responds best to early treatment. Any questions feel free to ask.

best wishes

Paul

Hi Paul, thanks for your message. Never thought about shingles. Felt sick all day and scalp thing started today at work. It's not on one side but worse top centre. I've had a cold all week and my ears hurt so thought it may be connected to that. Thought shingles caused lesions/scabs but I've not had any yet. Oh well back to another expensive trip to doctors!!

Hi again hadenough. In my case it showed first as an area of tiny red bumps. Accompanied by a horrible prickly stinging sensation....a bit like an ant had stung me several times. In fact the first Dr I saw diagnosed an insect bite. 3 different Drs and a week later Shingles was diagnosed! It seems it isnt easily diagnosed by younger Drs. You're right about the scabbing. This happens after a couple of days...a bit like a cold sore. Hope this helps!

In short re the LEF, sorry no. Have you thought it might not be side effects but Shingles? I think its GP asap.

Thank you for your message Medway lady. As I mentioned to Paul in my message above, I never thought about shingles. I hate googling symptoms as they scare the life out of me that's why I thought I'd contact the experts on here!

Hi, I woke up one night feeling awful, terrible sweats, my head was sore touching the pillow. I got up and had a shower, washed my hair which was uncomfortable with the spray on my head. Went to docs who did a blood test, my crp was very very high. Was put on high dose steroids, they thot I had temporal arteritis. Was on steroids for over a year, but then my rheumy said it wasn't TA, my biopsy was neg. turned out after a few other illness, I have RA and MCTD. It was inflammation in my head. I wud go to docs and get your crp checked, if you are on steroids it might only be mild. I also thought it was shingles but doc said it wasn't. Very odd feeling in my head, was tender even brushing my hair.
