foot-pain-explored.com/blue...

It called blue toe syndrom

Well i told you i had had a double hernia repai and that all this stemmed 10 week after this with ankle pain like i had sprained my ankle.

Could it be when they whent into my guts to do this some sort of plack broke off from withinside my main artery ie

blue toe syndrome, the plaque tends to break off from blood vessels near the groin and abdomen (the abdominal aorta-iliac-femoral arterial system). It travels through the blood stream and gets lodged in the small blood vessels of the foot. This limits the flow of oxygen and glucose to the toes, both of which are needed to keep cells alive. The result is destruction and death of the surrounding tissues. The toes start to turn a blue purple colour due to the lack of oxygen and blood suppy

Now this makes sence to me as i still get discomfort in this area and but it down to the mesh bonding with my mussles.

Since a lot of us have had exploratory cameras fed into our arteries through the groin area, this would very probably mean we are at risk from bits of plaque going into the bloodstream during this process. It looks a likely answer to me, and I am thankful that my symptoms were not this acute, but just a light swelling with pus at the edge of my big toenails. Well done for spotting this Minka.

Ye man, it does sound like a flare, pain , you got hot , exhausted , can walk less . If no better when he gets bloods back maybe he'll give you some steroids to help? Don't know but just hope it improves x

minka profile image
minka in reply toallanah

yes allanah was on steroids and taken off them now back to square one. one thing i have noticed my nails on hands grow back real fast MOST WOMEN WOULD ENVEY THE SPEED ON NAIL GROWTH.

allanah in reply tominka

Mine as opposite , thin and brittle! You maybe need another course to get you over this flare or maybe see your Rheumy to see if your ra needs more treatment x good luck x

That looks sore, is it? I wonder if you've loss of blood supply, that's the most obvious concern when extremities turn blue.

Interestingly my h has recently had another angiogram & again was catheterised through his groin (femoral artery), his preferred option as his arm inevitably never allows easy access. This time they had difficulty inserting the catheter but eventually managed though it's resulted in a rather large bruise. Anyway, the reason for telling you this is both times he's had femoral catheterisation he's been told to look out for a change in the colour of his toes & if this happened to call & tell them or present himself at the ward where he was taken for recovery. Fortunately all's been well apart from soreness & bruising around the area (including his testicles), no change in his toes but I asked him what colour did they say to look out for & he didn't ask so I've just had a look online & it's blue! So, do you think your hernia op could be relative to you toes?Worth questioning or reminding your GP you've recently had a hernia op, if it was relatively recent?

minka in reply tonomoreheels

hi i did tel them about hernia opperation and all this happened 8 weeks after and i was doing so well no problems then ankle started off which spread into the knee now i feel like one leg is shorter than the other.

nomoreheels profile image
nomoreheels in reply tominka

Could be delayed post op swelling?

minka profile image
minka in reply tonomoreheels

WELL ITS BEEN 12 MONTHS NOW SINCE OPPERATION I WISH IT WAS POST OP SWELLING

allanah profile image
allanah in reply tominka

Maybe talk to another doc in your practice ?? Is the toe still blue ? Very strange!! X

minka profile image
minka in reply toallanah

its gone down a bit im managing at the moment but my foot and ankle now feel like they are dried out bone what this is i dont know no swelling as such loog normal but trying to walk on it well thats another issue and the opposite knee is not a happy bunny either cos im using this to keep me up more even with walking stick I dont know if rum swells or not but this seems to be turning into like dry bones and cartlidge. how this cant show on mri i dont know but its fast at 10 months now. Do you know if rum swells or not? my grans did

allanah profile image
allanah in reply tominka

Don't know what rum is minka , but you got swelling etc but ra not showed up yet in blood tests. Sounds weird that the doc doesn't want to do more tests! Think if it keeps going another doctor might be more helpful x hope otherwise you are ok?

minka profile image
minka in reply toallanah

NO SWELLING after the inital time that it whent. like no water in joint now at all just hot and tingling but when you touch it its not hot

allanah profile image
allanah in reply tominka

Even I feel it's not RA related it's unusual for it to be feel hot and tingly . Needs a different doc to " take it seriously" maybe?

nomoreheels profile image
nomoreheels in reply toallanah

Yes, could be. Def more investigation needed & I'd be pushing cause it doesn't look at all right from the pic. You were a nurse A, lack of blood supply do you think? Inflammation though? Over to you!

allanah profile image
allanah in reply tonomoreheels

Well I can't guess here and we aren't allowed to give medical advice here ,so yeah Minka mate, see docs ! Xxx
