Three Years Smoke Free

Three years without a cigarette. The good part is I really cannot stand the smell of the dreaded cigs.

In the first few days of quitting, I was lucky as I experienced almost no feelings of withdrawal. I stopped drinking coffee when i get up. Now I like the fact that I don't STINK. I like the fact that my apartment does not stink. I feel cleaner, and I love it.

I’m the same and 2 yrs 1 month cig free .. and quit after I got pneumonia from catching a nasty strain of streptococcus bacteria .

Yep the smell is repulsive and you can smell it a Mile away , and even worse on someone who’s just had one 🤮🤮🤮

It’s weird how you just get on with life without them isn’t it ? Where they once ruled you with everything you done , a cigg was part of it !!!

I had put some weight on though , about 2.5 stone ! So was upto 14,5 .

Only thing that’s knocked me was early this year gradually got an inflammation of my large bowel and was ulcerative..To point of nearly losing it , so diagnosed with ulcerative colitis, ( inflammatory bowel disease ) ..

was shocked to read that a possible cause away from hereditary and your immune system going haywire , that nicotine withdrawal can be a cause 😱😱😱😱 as was explained that nicotine promotes a mucus in your gut in which mucus protects the gut lining from ulcers !

So was a shocker and I’d given up 2 yrs ago ...

All at bay now with immune suppressing medication, but for life , as the ulcers don’t go , just lay dormant and my immune system not attacking my bowel for no reason 🙄 ..

So been in the wars since giving up m but still won’t go back , but hit the diet also and now back to 12 st and feeling good ....

All the best to you and well done for 3 yrs 👍👍👍

And anyone else reading this and thinking you can’t do this , believe us .. it may be a struggle to start but within a week , you will be on the road to quitting , and you will be surprised how quick the time goes and how much money you’ll be saving and now better you’ll feel , ok , I had a glitch with the above , but that’s my bad luck ....

interesting about a lack of mucus in the stomach is bought about by nicotine withdrawal. My big worry at the moment is Diabetes, all these old people (I'm 65)ailments are a worry. Controlling weight is harder than giving up cigs. All the best. It is great being clean and green.

I forgot t9 mention that bit 😂

The Initial drug treatment for severe colitis is a strong steroid iv

Then tablet form for 8 weeks ..

This pushed my blood sugar over the top and as then diagnosed diabetic as blood sugar was raised to 30.1 !!!

Was controlled with other diabetic drugs , and and as the steroid was reducing the better that got , all back to normal now but they think I may have been pre diabetic as was carrying some weight .. hence me doing something about it ..

I just started lots of walks and cut a lot of carbs out of my diet ... maybe to much but I’m used to that now .. I no longer eat bread , potatoes. Pasta , rice , may have some bread here and there but rarely.....sweet potatoes I have as less carbs ..

I eat more veggies with chicken , fish , salads etc .. it’s hard and get hungry quicker , but if your after losing a few pounds ,

I’d recommend reducing some carbs , not all , but reduce !

I feel and look better for it ...

Just on some horrible meds for the control of the colitis And told , when I asked if I was to stop taking them , they said this would flare up again 🙁 , they said I don’t realise how ill I was when I was admitted, and 60% would have lost there bowel in the condition it was in ... so I count myself very very lucky indeed ...

Take care 👍
