Day 11 on Champix.........

Well, I've made it to day 11, the higher dose has been a bit yucky, had one night when I got into bed and promptly had to run to the loo and be violently sick, but apart from a strange taste in my mouth and nausea its fine. The smoking, well, I had been down to 4 a day until yesterday when I couldn't manage more than 2, haven't had a fag since 7pm last night and I don't intend to today. I have my appointment with the smoking cessation nurse who's helping me this afternoon, it would be nice to be able to tell her I have done nearly 24 hours. Seems nothing but believe me after having my first fag at the age of 7, then smoking from 13, I'm now nearly 51, I'm quite chuffed. And I must add, all with my DH still puffing away, he refuses to stop.

Well done to you. I am using champix too, nearly at the end now. Think champix really helped me. It is tough to do it with a smoking partner, but lots of people on here have succeeded in that position, and you can too. Try not to be jealous of him,r angry. remember that you are choosing not to smoke, but he is addicted and is forced to carry on for ever, or until he takes that first huge step towards freedom. And seeing you succeed may help him.

And spend the money you save on you!

Thanks Mummymonster, DH smoking doesn't bother me in the slightest, I'm not jealous, haven't really thought about it. I really don't think I have enjoyed smoking for years, I have quite often had just a couple of puffs of a rollie at work and just chucked it away as I haven't liked the taste but just feel I ought to get one in just in case I don't get the chance later. It'll be good to not have to go outside for a fag when I get back to work next Thursday (I've been on annual leave for the past 2 weeks, hence why I started Champix now), Well done you on 50 days smoke free thats fantastic, I can't wait to tell my 86 year old mother she can no longer call me "puffing Billy" ha ha ha

You sound very committed. Well done.

Puffing Billy, thats funny, I never thought how very peculiar it is for a person to light a tube full of poisons and put it in their mouth, until I stopped. The roof of my mouth peeled and I asked why on here and someone explained it was all the burnt bits dropping off. That is foul!

Yuck, that sounds horrible.....I wonder if that always happens. I that the giving up smoking or side effects of champix?

Sure it doesn't always happen, but it's definitely the smoking not the champix. There are a well documented host of side effects for smoking and champix, but I have also noticed quite a few side effects from life. I seem to be over the negatives now, but thoroughly enjoying being healthier, smelling great although I change my clothes less, not worrying that I'm killing myself all the time, and my nonsmoking family no longer having the permanent moral high ground!

Hey Skyelady - so good to read your day 1 post, congratulations and welcome to the best journey of your life 👏

Keep up that great mindset and positive attitude, it will really stand to you. My husband stopped a year and a half before I did, every day I smoked, wished I could stop until one night in the early hours woke up coughing and couldn't get my breath, I was so scared I would die and decided there and then, enough was enough and stopped. That was over 3 years ago :) Hopefully, your DH will follow in your footsteps, but it has to be their decision and best not to put pressure on them as will only rebel - lucky my husband never said a word to me and don't know how he stuck it out as don't think I would have done it if the other way around.

Hope you got on well with the cessation nurse and told your Mam you are the new 'Sweet Skyelady'

PS When is your birthday in February?

Thanks Roisin, my birthday is 25th, I'm not looking forward to it as I hate odd numbers....lol, I would prefer to skip the odd years and age quicker, even at 51...lol However I am looking forward to starting my 51st year as a non-smoker, I wanted to doit last year but just wasn't in the mindset until now. My SC nurse is fantastic, we have such a giggle and she has been so helpful with other things as well, my DH has undiagnosed Aspergers, agoraphobia and various other things and until now flatly refused to see a Dr or claim any benefits even though I am the only earner. With the help of SC nurse I have persuaded him to see the GP tomorrow morning. Its a huge thing for him and I'm immensely proud of him.
