Nicotine free for 31 days...depressed

I have been nicotine free for 31 days. I used to smoke around 17 a day for the past 40 years. I associate smoking with everything. I feel depressed and lacking. I just hope that normality comes soon. It is very lonely.

Welcome Julie_Trying , the loneliness and sadness/depression is perfectly normal and should be only short term as your mind adjusts to no longer getting nicotine. A trip to your local health food shop for some herbal supplements to help deal with this is worth a try. Stay close to us and post often as it is great to help with the loneliness as we are all going through the same thing 🚭

Quitting smoking can indeed be a very lonely experience. Try to remember that everything you did as a smoker, you can do as a non-smoker. It's a learning curve. You absolutely will start to do things and not associate them with smoking.

Also, you are not alone. 🙂

The grief we feel loosing a part of us is real. We mold ourselves around cigarettes and when we stop smoking it makes us feel a little empty. Stay positive with your new chapter in your life. It really will get better. 😊

31 days is great work. I am not much further ahead of you and there have definitely been some very "meh" times in the last few weeks. Congratulations on your journey so far. The "meh" will pass!

I am just over a month smoke free. Last night I wanted to cave. Seriously. I felt like sitting outside with a glass of wine and a smoke, and it's like nothing compared to that. I missed my friend the cig so much, it was miserable. Woke up this morning and so glad I never caved, but wow, it's been so long and those sneaky pangs are miserable. Feeling much better 2day, but not as secure as I felt before. A liiiiitttle bit wobbly.

I hope you go the distance and come through it into a confident no crave non smoker. I am hanging in there, in a miserable fashion though I know after this amount of time it is not physical, so I tell myself 'no' I am nolonger addicted. This depression though is really getting to me.

Hey Julie_Trying - definitely try getting some herbal supplements and vitamins to help with this as suggested previously, vitamin B complex and vitamin D can help - avoid caffeine and alcohol if not already doing so..... things will improve soon, I promise, post anytime, here for you :)

If you want to stop smoking then do just that no matter WHAT !!. As time passes it changes and each day you feel the craving a little less till you get to a day that you do not crave at all no matter what the situation.

Hi Roisin01, I am still nicotine free though have insomnia, cravings, tiredness, feeling disconnected and still depressed. I sound like a sad sack which isnt normally like me. Hoping that by three months things will settle down. Thanks for asking.
