I use to cough when I smoked, but when I gave up it went away.

All the best.

Hello and welcome.

There doesn't seem to be any hard and fast rules regarding coughing after quitting. Lots of people start very early on, some take a month or for, it took 4 months for my neighbour to start. I gave up over 7 months ago having smoked for decades (am 46) and have never coughed at all! To be honest, I have never noticed any of the changes that others have either - no difference in taste, smell or energy levels. Indeed, I feel just the same.

I think the point I am trying to make is that we are all different. Don't worry about the coughing. Keep going for your walks because walking is one of the best forms of exercise you can do.

You are doing incredibly well having reached day 6. Keep going and just take it one day at a time. ☺

hiya Mel, I was a 25 a day smoker for 25 years and I never got a cough when I stopped smoking, what I did notice as time went on was my chest didn't hurt in the morning when I got up. Everyone's quit is different maybe you will be lucky and not get a cough. Well done on your quit!! 😊😊😊

Welcome Playbunnymel and congratulations on Day 6 quit. With regards trying to loose the weight, maybe concentrate on that when you are comfortable in your quit and just have quitting your priority and nothing in the way to jeopardize it....

I quit cold turkey a year and a half ago and the cough comes and goes - but everyone is different - also had alot of tar in the first few weeks but some never experience this.

Stay close to us and read up as much as can on quitting and what to expect - below is a pinned post that may be helpful to you......

Hi Playbunnymel - I quit a month ago and no sign of any cough or anything yet... I wouldn't worry about that just yet and concentrate on enjoying your walks...

Well done on your 1 week tomorrow!
