What happened was, I quit in October, cold turkey, lasted five days. Five days of weeping and wailing and gnashing of teeth and the dog hiding under the sofa. Divorce imminent. Cracked and bought a packet of baccy. It was rather disgusting. Actually didn't finish the packet. Smoked most of it then threw it in the bin.
Attempt two, I armed myself with 2mg nicotine gum. Then, for some reason, I decided I was tough enough to handle it without the gum. Ha! Dog under sofa. Husband not talking to me. Made it two days, bought a packet of baccy. Read every article on the entire internet about what happens to the body when one quits smoking.
By now smoking was actually horribly disgusting but I finished the packet and promised myself I'd eat the whole box of gum, like the actual cardboard box, if that would help the cause. Bought an enormous amount of apples for the drops in blood sugar, clementines for an extra boost of vitamin C, and enough bottled water to see me through armageddon. That bit of preparation made all the difference.
It is now day 4. This time it is not an attempt. I am done with smoking, but I have signed on to the forums here because I'll need support now that the initial rush of glee at having kicked the habit is passing. And I will of course support anyone who needs it.
Thank you for having me.

I think most of us on here have all been accomplished serial quitters our time so join the club and welcome to the madness that's also known as quitting.
If I'm honest I think it's really a case of digging our heels in until we get used to it but I'm sure you'll get lots of tips and advice from everyone on here to help you keep you going. So long as you don't lose that wonderful sense of humour of yours I think you'll be fine.
Great to have you with us and looking forward to sharing your quit with you.
Yes, now that you mention it, I've had quite a few dizzy spells. But they were so overshadowed by all the other stuff the first week brought me that I hardly had time to notice them. What a week that first one was!
The best thing for me was suddenly experiencing such a boost in my energy after about a week.
Another thing is that I can SMELL everything. I didn't realize how much I was missing out on, although some of the smells I could do without......
I think we're probably posting on the wrong thread Becky but I'm sure LizziLu won't mind and we can just blame it on quitting or perhaps just one of our senior moments - I seem to be having a lot of them lately and especially since I stopped smoking lol.
Just keep an eye on how you go and hopefully things will settle down. It is amazing how our sense of smell and taste buds improve without smoking and I'm sure we smell a lot better too.

Thank you for the warm welcome! My quit is AMAZING and I'm sure everyone already knows all about it but I'm also sure I'll feel the need to tell you all about it anyway. I do believe you are absolutely right about digging in the heels. This is not for the faint of heart.
Sorry, I'm definitely having a 'senior' moment. Sorry LizziLu and you too Becky - you were posting on the right thread and I got it wrong - nothing new there then:o:confused:. I think I definitely need a glass of wine now.

Thanks so much! I'll do a day 5 update later today.
LizzieLu, good for you. Your kicking this addiction's asss. Only stopping trying to quit is frowned upon here, your doing great. Right back in the saddle and hopefully riding off into the sunset this time without looking back.
