Blimey, that is young. Well done for deciding to quit, and welcome to the board. Are you using any quit methods, or just cold turkey?

Hello and welcome sheppard and congratulations on making the best decision of your life.

This is the best thing you can do for COPD and no better motivation than your family.

Your so right it taking it one day at a time, your daily mantra can be "For today, I choose not to smoke" and before you know it the days will soon clock up and you'll feel the benefits!

We're with you all the way :)

Sheppard, sorry to hear that you have COPD. :( There are quite a few forum regulars who also have it so you won't be alone (and I am sure they can answer any questions you have and share some of their experiences with you). Is there a genetic factor in your case in view of how young you are? (life just ain't fair sometimes is it?)

However, you've made the best decision you could possibly make. Whilst I don't have COPD myself, my boss does and I speak regularly to a local pulmonary rehabilitation group (I [provide benefits advice) so I do know a wee bit about it. Quitting smoking will make a significant difference both to the progression of the disease and to your ongoing quality of life and I'll bet that like my boss, you'll find a way of managing it so that the impact on your life is as low as possible.

Many, many congratulations on your courageous decision- your family will thank you for it every day (and I'll bet they're as proud as punch of you :)). You've come to the right place- everyone here is lovely- and you'll get all the support, advice and encouragement you need.

How are you going about your quit? Are you cold turkey or are you using nicotine replacement therapy? Do you have any ongoing support? Do post again and tell us more.

Cheering you on! :D Just take each minute as it comes and don't think about the long term. You can do it and you're not alone ever.

Thanks everyone i got nasal spray just in case and plenty of extra strong mints i was looking at the e cigarette as some1 said it worked for them but not sure bout it is any1 on here using it i would rather go cold turkey tho

Welcome Sheppard and really well done on deciding to quit. I'm sorry to hear you have COPD which I know almost nothing about but plenty of people here will be able to help you.

As far as e-cigs go, I did use one for about the first 10 days. It seemed to make breaking the habit a much gentler process for me. I only ever used it last thing at night to reward myself for getting through the day. I think they are ok if you use them as a type of NRT but not if you just replace cigarettes with e-cigs. I found ditching the e-cig a lot easier than the real thing. I used the 1 mg lozenges for just over 3 months as even though I smoked quite a lot I just could not tolerate any other form of NRT.

I wasn't able to get an appointment with a stop smoking advisor but I really would recommend it as I just had to muddle through alone until I found this forum.

Very best of luck to you.

There is good news ahead for you, quitting smoking has to be the best decision , you will ever make.
