Anyone using e cigs to quit?

Some people do.

Is it cheating?

That's up to you, using them is a change of delivery system or nicotine but you are still taking nicotine into your system. There are advantages to quitting nicotine all together, such as not wasting money, not being controlled by addiction and I firmly believe that it makes people more anxious.

Are they safe?

Nobody knows how safe they are yet, but it seems unlikely that they are anywhere near as dangerous as smoking cigarettes is.

ARE YOU BLIND or Voluntarily Stupid???? People, it is the NICOTINE, not the delivery systems(cigs, e-cigs, patches, etc) that you are ignoring. Does it matter, then, how you got the nicotine in your body? With your reasoning for delivery options, why don't you just shoot up and get it done with? Jus' saying

I used an e-cig occasionally for about the first 10 days. I'm pretty sure without it I wouldn't have made it past the first couple of days without a cigarette. I'm on day 35 today and even though I'm finding things really hard at the moment, I've not used it again.

This is such a difficult question, as only you know what you want long term.... I used the patch method, and have been nicotine free for a few months now, also I was so desperate to get rid of the hand to mouth thing.

What ever you decide it's great to have you with us, with a move in the right direction.

That can only be a good thing, you are making mental changes, that's great.

Please keep us all updated, good luck

Hi Craig and welcome back to the good fight :D

I don't think using an e-cig is cheating any more than using patches, or an inhaler, or Champix or any other quitting aid. If you're intending to quit nicotine dependence the trick is to ensure the e-cig just that- a quitting aid rather than a full-on alternative to smoking. I know of quite a few forum members who struggled because the e-cig became an alternative to real cigs (and almost as difficult to break away from) and at least one forum member started to smoke again as a result. So proceed with caution is my advice (for what it is worth).

However, from your signature it looks like you've been smoke- free for over a month now so many congratulations from me! Whatever you're doing is clearly working for you. :)

Hi Craig, why the change of name?

I quit with ecigs and it led me back to fags although other members have quit with them as long as you taper down on the nicotine it's got to be better than smoking and u won't stink.... Ecig is a swear weird on the forum though it seems :)

I use the ecig and find it really good. For me quitting tobacco is the important issue. I have a long term plan to reduce the nicotine level over time until I no longer need the ecig. I think the main thing to remember is that every quit is different. There is no right or wrong method to your quit. Whatever works for the person is their own best method. I wouldn't recommend switching to it if you have done without it so far though.

Same thing happened to me, no amount of changing passwords would help so I became Sued!

Hi Craig, I agree with the others in that it's got to be better for you than smoking.

I used a low nic ecig for a couple of weeks then went on to a zero one but didn't use it for long really. It did help though, and I think any form of NRT that stops you smoking is ok. As long as it you don't smoke it as often as you would fags and reduce the amount you use it over time then you should be ok to stop using it eventually. Good luck. :)

I am now back on an ecig to get me through Xmas I am finding it incredibly hard at the moment will it lead me back to smoking? Maybe, it did before but for now I am still smoke free so whatever works for you go with it xx

I kept one in the home and sometimes went weeks without it.but when the going got tough instead of running back to the fags I'd use it.....emergency only back then.....last resort lol.

Now I'm nearly 11 mths in and puff on it Friday nights with a glass of wine.I don't inhale,it's just something I do.

It's harless enough to me and I definately don't won't to smoke fags again.

You do whatever helps you through x

You may kid yourself into thinking that you are "smoke-free" but you ARE NOT NICOTINE free.

You are absolutely right - just another way to keep feeding the addiction. We do not crave smoke, we crave nicotine!!!!!
