I'm with TG on this. If you're concerned you know it's a trigger so maybe sacrifice a few nights out for the good of the quit.
I stayed away from alcohol not because of the temptation but because when I did drink the craving was huge. I could concentrate on nothing anybody was saying. All I could think of was I want to smoke. It made for a really unpleasant night out.
Lots of people on here say that alcohol is a trigger as we are more relaxed, therefore very tempted to have a fag. But you would feel so bad the next day. Nearly a week done! It's a great start. Could you be the driver? Taking temptation away from you.
Look forward to your posts, and progress..
Lots of lovely people on here, with great advice, post and read as often as you need or want.
Many congratulations on reaching Day 4- you really are doing fantastically well!
Good advice there from everyone. I found the only way I could cope with social occasions was to be on the wagon so I didn't drink for some months after quitting. I quit in early December so had several Xmas bashes and a New Years Eve party to negotiate. I found I was quite happy with diet coke and nicotine lozenges but I know it would have been too much at that stage to have been on the booze.
I shall keep my fingers crossed for you tomorrow night. Forewarned is forearmed though so having planned for it in advance I am sure you will find a coping mechanism that works for you.
All I can say is avoid it...only because it is a massive trigger and when we have had a few the guard is well and truly down.... I learnt the hard way.. Avoidance is best for a while xx
