almost week 8: almost week 8 still not had... - No Smoking Day
almost week 8
Your well on your way, for me I used patch's and am now on my second week with no patch, only problem can't stop eating lol.
Congrats to you
Congrats!!! That is a brilliant achievement! I know
Nothing about patches so can't help
Much there but from what I've heard others say, they start cutting them up
Smaller and smaller and wean themselves off them
Gradually around the 12 week
Mark?
Some people will disagree with me on this but if you need to keep using NRT then you keep using it. I know a guy that quit smoking 13 years ago and he still uses NRT. He doesn't smoke and that is the main thing. I think stopping smoking is the most important thing and the outcome is more important than the journey so if you need to use NRT for longer than recommended then that's fine because you aren't smoking. You can always change your method of NRT to one that you control (ie spray, gum, etc) and phase it out over a longer period if you wanted.
This is my own opinion and other people will have differing opinions. The only thing that matters is what you think. You could come off the patches when you are due too and not have a problem. Keep an open mind about it all.
Or, short answer: well done on reaching week 8. You won't always need the patch, speak to your stop smoking nurse or chemist who will help you come off them. Or see advice above.
Well done on week 8 Kaz, I haven't used patches so can't say a lot other than, no, you shouldn't need them forever, others will know better than me...........as Mark says each to their own but for me it's been about beating an addiction to nicotine in the early days, something you've no chance of doing if you use NRT for years. NRT seems to have helped many but surely it can't be a long-term thing, you'd be one lost patch or empty cartridge from smoking again? I would anyway!
Hi Kaz, I'm 13 weeks and 3 days hours etc and still on patches lol. They work for me the no smoking part is easy for me it's the nicotine addition that is hard. I started on the 15 patches and went to 14 after a week, now been on 10 for 3 weeks, just got a new set from nurse for another two weeks. She is happy for me to take it slow and reduce when I'm ready. If you feel you need them keep with them, I'm not ashamed I still have one on, to me it's better than smoking.
Good advice all. I went to 14 today and I feel ok. Had one small craving n then pushed the thought away and it passed so quick and was really easy. OMG I love being a non smoker now and then I think ok maybe just one but that first one is always horrible so I keep that in mind. I really love this forum. Well done to you all!! I guess if I found in 4 months time I had a time where I was wanting to smoke stress or wotever then Ide think about buying a box of patches before smokes.
