Hi, Where to begin. I'm 28,Male and married with 2 young children, I'd been smoking since I was 15 and I'm finally going to kick the habit in. I actually started yesterday and managed to go through till 9pm without a smoke before I caved in and crumbled.
Yesterday I'd been using a patch, But I figured all I'm doing is feeding myself nicotine, Today I'm going Cold Turkey. I will give up I wish to see my Children grown up but more importantly I want to stop for myself.

Welcome to the forums! First off, congrats for making the choice to quit, thats half the battle won right there! I too went cold turkey and it is tough for the first few days (although keeping your mind occupied and doing lots of exercise helped me, plus shouting at the imaginary nicotine bully in my head which is really theraputic by the way! ). It really does get easier though and those craving do subside and become much much easier to laugh at. The best advice I can give though is if you are going through a hard time then leap on these forums and VENT! chances are, someone will be going through the same thing as you and it helps not doing it alone, plus it will help just to get it off your chest. Good luck and well done for making the right choice
I'm only three hours in and it's started, The overwhelming desire to light up has become all consuming, It feels like it's eating away at me. I know it won't make me feel any better, Why did I ever take up smoking if this is what it makes me feel like !.
I won't give in to these cravings though, All I need to do is focus on the fact that I'm now a ''Non-Smoker'', I don't need cigarettes to make me happy now or in the future, Hopefully the craving settle down over the course of this week.
You can do this. Weaker people than you ( me, for sure)have managed it. I'm coming up to a year quit now, but I had help with Champix this time. I had a long quit years ago of about 15 years or more and made the fatal mistake of thinking I could just have one on holiday. You can't! It led to another 15 years smoking. I might as well have just lit £ notes for all the pleasure it gave me.
My first quit was cold turkey and the first few weeks were very difficult, but doable. My second quit has really been quite a doddle with the Champix start.
It is so worth it, so I do hope you dig deep and stick with it.
You've made a wonderful decision for you and your kids. remember there is help out there and there is light at the end of this tunnel. x
No doubt your kids are the main reason to quit. Keep a photo of them in your wallet if you haven't already as a constant reminder why you're quitting every time you get your wallet out to buy cigarettes.
The people on here offer good advice and they have certainly helped me so far. Also personally I'd recommend reading the Allen Carr's easy way to stop smoking book as this helped me too.
Yes smoking is a disgusting and expensive habit. I think quitting for your kids is one of the best reasons. I am doing the same for my newborn, who is almost 4 months already. I am sure you don't want them to be around that terrible smell.
