Hi

Ive been lurking here a while reading the brilliant advice.....

Im a Nic addict aged 41 and smoke 30 -40 a day....started smoking when i was 15

Ive previously tried quitting with inhalator(vile) and ecigs...these worked for a few days then back on the real fags

Also tried quickmist spray but that was bloody hideous as well

Im going to ask for Champix i think when i see her.....there does appear to be possible side effects but i have had some of these before when quitting

Im sick of smoking now....out of breath when walking dog....limiting my hols to spain as cant stand the thought of a long flight.....

My OH who only smokes in the evenings is also going to try and give up...cold turkey

I feel nervous about the quit already but really want to do it this time....

great forum and im sure ill be on here a lot.......

Champix Social Group

Hello there,

Like you I'm new to this forum and have already have benefited from the great support and advice spinning around. I've also tried NRT in the past with little success - longest quit was 10 days with patches. Although not a "heavy" smoker I average 7-12 per day I am an absolute nicotine addict and reach for a cigarette on waking, if I don't have one I feel cranky and if something is missing.. Have done this for the past twenty years and now I'm saying NO. I'm currently on day 2 of the champix route and plan to give up on day 11. No side effects yet- its too early days.

Just to let you know that if you do decide to take the champix route on seeing the nurse there is a very helpful social group on the forum which you can access from the site from the quick links drop down. I've had a look here and feel that this could be an invaluable resource for sharing experiences for those using the champix method.

The very best of luck with your quit.

PW.

Hi, firstly good luck ,

I just read your post and it reminded me of myself . I also had smoked since about the age of 14/15 and are now 44 and like you i was just sick of smoking, plus the cost is just silly really when you work it out.

I am on my fourh day , which to me is very suprising it does get easier and if it helps i actually feel better.

Myself I would never have gone along to group therapy to stop smoking as its to americanised for me,, however like a lot of posters on here will recomend each time the urge to smoke creeps up just read a few posts on here and it will hopefully give you the encouragemnet not to give in..

good luck Kmh

Good luck

Hi there

Your post rings so many bells with many on here I am sure.

I was very similar and felt exactly the same, I'm 45 years old, been smoking far too long and far too many. Finally gave up 2 months ago today using CHAMPIX. I think it is a wonderdrug, I know it's not for everyone, I figured it is my quit, so I'll give it a try and here I am.

Good luck, you've made the biggest decision already, go for it, what have you got to lose?

Keep positive :D

Sara

Thanks all.....

I think its the ritual fags that will be the nightmare

When i get up at 5.30 am to let dog out i have 2 fags with that first coffee!!

I used to smoke a lot of cannabis when yoinger and kicked that habit which was diffcult so im determmined this time to get old nic off my back

Good luck all and thanks for all advice

Just downloaded the easy way to my kindle, ipad and Phone(so i can read it anywhere if i start climbing walls).....havent read it for a number of years....i figure it may help prior\during the champix...

Has anyone else read it while on Champix as opposed to doing Cold turkey ?

If the book convinces me to stop and the champix takes away the craving it might be a little easier......fingers crossed

You UK'ers are lucky to have those smoking nurses to help you. Here in Canada, the government offers no support to people who want to quit.

They should fund this forum as it's been a great help to me!

Well ive seen the nice no smoking lady and got prescribed Champix(pick up prescription tomorow)

Its my first time of getting fag help off the NHS as previously just bought NRT stuff off interweb

She made me blow in a device like a breathisler.......obviously its a bad claim to fame but she said i was the highest of the night...i blew 48...is that bad?....the charts she had seem to say so:eek:

Oh well onwards and upwards back in 2 weeks....and i will beat her machine:D

Hey, well done you getting yourself the right help!!

I used Champix, the timings you have put sound about right and you can always adjust it to suit you, you'll only start on one a day. Biggest piece of advise is eat, I always ate before them, a snack should be a good snack and not just a piece fruit, then I took them.

I experienced a bit of sickness but more when I smoked a ciggie, couldn't agree more about berroca and hangover's lol

You can do this, come on here whenever you can for advice and any worries you've got

Good luck :D

i read allen carr easyway while on patches and inhalator and two weeks into my quit which goes against his advice but i just ignored those bits and carried on reading and i believe it contributed massively to my quit

Woo hoo - exciting day for you! I did Champix and apart from a blip in December it worked a treat. Like you - hit my 40's, had smoked for 25 years and just couldn't do it anymore...!

Yes - 48 on the CO (carbon monoxide) puffer thing is pretty high! BUT - the great news is that it falls dramatically as soon as you stop smoking so if you stop before your next visit to the smoking nurse then you will see a huge difference! But - it's entirely up to you what day your quit day is.

I took Champix at around 6ish in the morning - and I replaced the first cigarette with a banana and a cereal bar so I had something in my tummy...still felt a bit sick but it really doesn't last very long. I took the evening one just before I went to bed - still had a full tummy from supper, and again felt abit sick but not for long. You will get the vivid dreams no matter what time you take the tablets - but don't be scared of them...I found mind to be very entertaining at times...!

The first fag of the day with coffee was probably the hardest one to give up but to be honest, I don't really think about it anymore - I've continued with the banana and all is good.

I kind of feel envious of the people just starting out...you will discover so many new things - food tastes great (a bit too nice), you can smell better, you'll have loads more energy...wow. This is one thing we do have over people who never smoked - they take these things for granted which I don't think I ever will.

I had a look at the price of a packet of fags at the supermarket on Sunday - had to get my jaw off the floor - how much was I paying for my habit? Dear god in heaven - must have been mad...:D

Have just returned from the doc's with my prescription for champix since my latest quit lasted an embarrassing 8hrs:o .After reading what everyone says about them on here for the past year or so i decided enough was enough.Given how poor my most recent attempt was i am suprised that instead of falling back into the misery of it all it's actually made me quite angry, not with myself but with the cigarettes, whereas before i would have just slipped back into smoking and put all thoughts of stopping to the back of my mind.

It seems i learn something new with every failure.Lasted 3-4 mths previously so i know i have it in me,looking to set a stop date of 12 days after starting them,i know were all different but does this sound a bit ambitious to those in the know!?
