Day one nearly over!!

Well today was a huge battle for me!! I was smiling n loving it this afternoon felt so good to not have smoked. But then the sun went down n I had a coffee n things kinda got hard from then on!! Think I'm gonna have a few sleepless nights while I'm getting these nasty little buggers out my system!!

I have decided on taking patches to help me thru, first time iv used them today. Tried gum bfor which wasn't for me. Taste is pretty bad! I was sceptical bout the patch thought it mite be an expensive placebo!! But I was very very surprised. Have gone cold turkey bfor for 9 days n that kinda makes u live on the edge of ur seat. And then had a drink of wine n out came the cigs! But the patches did take that edginess away. Surprised me!! So no alcohol iv decided this time too well not til I'm strong enough to tell the cigs to bugger off lol. I'm in bed now nearly 3am so I reckon I have dun the whole day off them!! Roll on tomoro lol. Good luck to all of u on quitting, wen we r all free of it lets all get togever for a big drink eh n il buy the champagne hahahahahhaha!!

The best advice I can give you is to record everything you feel, good and bad, for the first few weeks. Also read others experiences for each day that you reach. Doing this will remind you of what you have been through and reinforce your determination not to go through that again, reading others experiences gives you great advice on how to cope with what is happening to you at that time.

In the very early days I thought I couldnt get through the cravings, this forum helped to show me I could. Im not at 2 months complete and I swear to you it gets easier and easier. I have days where the want for a ciggie appears fom nowhere but I just rationalise it away by asking myself why would a smoke just now make me feel any better.

Best of luck with your quit and keep writing and reading.

Thank you both Michelle n Lilly .... I think il get some lozenges mild ones to help with the cravings at first n keep with the patches. They do take away the edge! I have no choice but to stop smoking as I have sinusitis n I wanna get better!! Will visit here n read lots n write lots as it does help too and wen I'm over the first few days. I will be able to start to encourage others that we can all quit just given time. Thanks again all of u help is always welcomed n needed n believe me wen I'm well enough I'm gonna help the world to stop smoking these little buggers lol!!!!

Well done, Glemm!

I'll be attempting my first full day smoke-free very shortly -- the first in almost 20 years of smoking!

Are you new here? I only registered today, but I've already met some great members.

I've been 'trying out' the mouth spray in preparation for my 'day 1' -- I'm pretty confident it will help (everyone's different, and it seems to suit me very well). But I'm planning on visiting my GP very shortly to make sure I get underway properly.

I know what you mean about going 'cold turkey' -- there's no way I could do that (I tried sereral times before, but I've never made it through a single day!

Again, VERY WELL DONE -- you're well on your way to going smoke-free! :)

That will get me thru tonight I'm sure!! Cus it's freezing n ain't going out in that weather hehehehe. Anyone kno of any good books to read? No problem, Glemm.

My quit date is 11 December (hence the username). So I'll be joining you very soon! I've not really thought what I'll do to keep myself busy -- I tend to make more mess when I make any attempt to clean up (or so I've been told), so I think I'll take up something a bit simpler! ;)

Would be my pleasure to kick the habit along-side you, my friend.

Like yourself, I've cut down in preparation for my quit date, so it looks like we've taken a similar approach -- I even changed to a brand that I'm not so keen on. It maybe purely psycological, but If it helps then all the better.

As I mentoned earlier, I'm going to try using some NRT in the form of oral spray. I've tried it out already, and it seems to work well for me. I'm not sure going 'cold turkey' would be best for me, though my father did it this way -- thirty-five years ago, and he's never smoked since (now I come to think of it, he used to peel oranges to keep himself busy. I've never seen him eat an orange since :D)

Good luck for day two, my friend -- you're doing fantastic! Keep-up the great work! And thanks for the support -- It's very much appreciated.
