I have smoked since the age of 14 and am now 51. At the end of last year I was diagnosed with COPD and continued smoking, pushing it to one side. Then my son gave me my first grandchild and the doubts about smoking really grew and grew until finally I was in hospital for an operation and asked to see the help to quit nurse.
My quit day was 7/10/11. Im using patches and lozenges, as I was up to 30 a day I think I needed some kind of help. To be fair Im not finding day 4 so hard. I have the little demon in my head telling me to go have one but so far Ive managed to drown him out by singing loudly in my head, everything from batman to rudolph, god knows where they came from.
Im really proud to have reached day 4 and Ive been reading this forum since day 1, all of your experiences have really helped me to nail down why I am feeling a certain way and have helped me to deal with it.
My first 3 days were horrendous and Im hoping that things will start to get a little easier now.

Hi Lillie and congrats on reaching Day 4 It will definitely get easier from now on. Not all plain sailing but you soon learn to get through the difficult times. Welcome to the forum, there is always someone here to help. Stay strong and keep posting on here to let us know how you are doing.
I don't know why, but your post made me want to cry! Just similarities that I could relate to, I guess. Trust me, you are in the right place here - keep reading and learning from those who have been through it already. Lot's of people have really good links attached to their signatures as well. I hope that you've got a lot of time on your hands over the next few weeks, because there is a lot of reading to be done!!
And keep singing those stupid songs! Whatever helps is good right now.
Thank you both. Im nearly at the end of day 4 and feeling quite euphoric. It has been quite a shock to me that even 4 days in I suddenly stop and think, god I havent thought about smoking for a few hours and that makes me so happy.
I am definately going to stay here and following the links and help that others give.
Batman and Rudolph huh? Whatever gets you through the day, use it
COPD A scary diagnosis for sure.
Being an essential figure in your grandchild's future is a must, a wonderful reason to maintain a quit for.
Keep reading and educating yourself on quitting. This is your quit, own it, cherish it, protect it ... within it are memories yet to be made, yours and your grandchild's.
Well done too on reaching your 4th day and in such a positive way.
Awww thank you Elizabeth, comments like that make me even more determined to see this through, and thank you to everyone for your inspiration comments.
Lillie I am a bit older than you but didn't start smoking till I was 19, silly fool.
The reasons you give are good, so far I have no health problems but feel much better now I have stopped, my grandson is so proud of me I could not go back as I would disappoint him and I can't do that. You be proud and not smoke for your grandson.
