1st day today, really going for it but only 5 hours in and it is very hard. How's everyone else doing?
First Day(hard): 1st day today, really going... - No Smoking Day
First Day(hard)
Hi Tamdy,
I am not surprised that you find the first day difficult, in fact the first week was the most difficult for me but stay strong and remember the reasons why you chose to quit in the first place.
My advice to you is read as much as possible to understand how quitting affects you, find out about which withdrawals to expect etc, this way you will be able to fight them and understand them when they occur.
Also use this forum as much as possible, everyone on here will be able to offer advice and support, I have found it very useful myself.
Finally it may be worth considering NRT if you have not already, I am cold turkey myself but every person is different.
Good luck and keep going.

Footlong sounds good but think i will stick to my pot noodle today. I have a patch on and am using the inuhalor although have heard there is a good tablet out there which i should ask the doctor for.
Definetly dont feel like i could do cold turkey. Thanks for the support.
Hi tambdy,
The tablet you have heard of is called Champix and most doctors are happy to prescribe it. I can vouch for it as I have been taking it for four weeks and I am now into Day 18 of not smoking Didn't think I would get this far!!
The first 3 days are always the hardest when you stop smoking but it really does get better after that.
Good luck with your quit,
Zoe
Hi Tambdy,
It's my first day too. No nicotine since 10pm last night, but I am taking Champix which I think is REALLY helping. Had no major cravings yet. Drinking lots of fresh orange juice and water. Gots loads of work on which helps and planning to go to an exercise class tonight.
I feel a bit empty and spacey, but I'm please I've got to 1pm on day one!
Have you read Allen Carr's book? Really interesting and a very different view of "giving up" (we are not giving up anything!)
Good luck with the rest of your day.
We can do it!

Thanks Guys, Alex Carr the comedian? I will contact the doctor about the tablets but wont be able to make it in until friday to collect them.
good luck everyone just by lunch where i would have smoked 2, so far so good lets keep it up tonight will be the big challange.
Hi Tambdy
It's my first day too although I did have one when I first got up and could have kicked myself. Anyhow I slapped on a patch when I'd finished it and so far so good. OH is also giving up today so we can support each other.
yeah defo, i am starting to feel like the strenght of my patch is wearing away but so far so good.
Main reason i want to stop is due to my asthama want to get fit. Does any one know if i can take patch plus chewin guy and the inuhalor?
I'm using a 25mg patch at the moment which is the strongest. When I tried to give up in the past I used one which was 18mg I think and they did nothing for me. These ones seem to suit me better. (Not sure if I can mention brand names). I have used inhalators in the past with patches and I don't think it did any harm apart from making me feel slightly ill when I'd had too much nicotine but then I'd just ease off on the usage.
Dear all
To those on day one. Well done It is a big achievement to get through even half a day. You can do it. It is hard but then I am sure you expected that.
Work out your trigger points that make you want to smoke and decide how you are going to handle them. Planning is working for me as well as waking in the morning and deciding that "today I choose not to smoke".
Best of luck people. x
Hi tambdy,
Does any one know if i can take patch plus chewin guy and the inuhalor?
Whoa:eek: Erm if I were you I wouldn't take all three cos if you do you will overdose on nicotine, get a blinding headache, or worse, and then feel like a real smoke anyway cos you will be over-feeding the nicotine addiction). I did that, I was on patches and then puffed on my e-cigarrette and then went for a real cigarette so back to square one. Champix has worked better for me, the first 3 Days were very hard but at least the nicotine was out of my system so I felt I was making progress. I don't really like NRT as eventually you have to go through the nicotine withdrawal anyway, so in a way its like quitting twice?? Not much fun. So good luck with whichever way you choose, and remember this forum is always here to help.
