Hi all sorry I've been so quiet the last few days - glad to read your all doing well!

I'm afraid I feel like a frawd - 9 days now no smoking and to be honest it's not that bad with the help of the Inhalator. I have wanted this for so long but deep down never thought I could do it. Yet for the last 2 days all I have thought about is after Ive had my baby is smoking. What the hell is wrong with me? Last time I thought I'd kicked the habit for good but some how I slipped. I'm desperatly hoping this feeling passes I want to set a good example for my children and I used to hate the fact that I would "need" a smoke every 2/3 hours. If anyone has any advice I would be very grateful x

hi sorry to hear that ,i am no expert but to me it sounds like you are still addicted to nicotine through the use of patches and inhalator and in turn the the nicodemons are getting at you, have you thought about cold turkey ?

i have used NRT and quit about 4 times and failed because i could not stop thinking about smoking when i finished the 12 week course sorry to be negative

I agree with Nicquitin, Don't beat yourself up about it, learn from it but I think maybe you would be better Cold Turkey. Means after a couple of days you are no longer physically addicted but just mentally and I think the mental cravings are easier to overcome that the physical. Dont let it be the start of smoking agian, keep a positive attitude!

Re NRT, everyone has to do what is right for them, no question. But personally speaking, I'm happier with cold turkey, as for me, to keep that nicotene level ticking over would have made me more likely to slip up.

I still think of smoking a lot. But in the last few days there's been a sea-change in *how* I'm thinking about it. I've spent so much time reading and educating myself that it's starting to work. It was just words to begin with: my lips would be saying 'smoking is bad, smoking his horrible' and my heart would be saying 'smoking is lovely and I miss it!' But that's changing. I really,deep down, don't think of smoking in a positive way any more - so when I get cravings, which I do (and some of them are still quite big) I can easily beat them down.

Stay strong, whether you use NRT or not. It WILL get better.

Dont be dismayed! Quitting anything is like riding a bike, you will probably fall off, but you have to get back on ! You must keep trying!

The cravings are deeps set in your brain, so you will think about smoking, some people will think about smoking a year after they quit, some people will stop thinking about it after a week ... just try not to think about thinking about it ....

It sounds easier than it is, and takes time, but now Im on Day 11 and havent had one craving for days ! :D Keep Trying! You will get there !! :D

Thanks for all your advice I'm feeling a lot better now! Suppose it was always going to be hard I'd been a smoker all my adult life. I don't think I could do cold turkey and with being off smokes for 11 days don't want to risk a relapse. Spoke to my quit nurse and I'm going to reduce slowly the nrt over the next few weeks. Thanks again everyone x

Hey Blackpoollass..... im not gonna be the only one in this forum from Blackpool, so you gonna have to stick with it!

Personally i wouldnt worry about the NRT, im on it, and stats prove that you have 9 times better a chance of quitting with it than without, but obviously people are different.

Im on patches and the Nicorette nasal sprays, ive found the sprays to give that kick within seconds of squirting the mist up your nose, so i can vouch for them. Nicotine itself isnt harmfull, the NRT doesnt contain all those toxins that could part you from your kids if you were a life long smoker, but obviously its giving you your fix, but at a much lower level. The sprays take a few days to get used to, eyes watering and sneezing when you first squirt but you soon become 'imune' to the symptoms! You might want to try them?

The girls there are REALLY good and make you feel better about yourself. And are all EX smokers too!;)

I personally have a mental issue with week 6, which traditionally i slip at the hurdle, so im sticking with the same strength untill week 8, then play it all by ear when it arrives. Before you know it you just wont have the issues with smoking, it'll just be one of those crazy things you did in the past.

Is there ANYTHING positive you could say about smoking to your kids? Would you encourage them to smoke for ANY reason? If the answer is no, then what is the point...:confused:

Hi guys I'm defo back on the right track! Going to stay on nrt, think I'm trying to think about to far into the future. I'm not smoking now and to be honest i don't think I've given myself enough credit. After at least 30 quit attempts over the last 15 years this is the second longest I've ever managed. I've managed through some stressfull days which has always been a major trigger and the cravings now are a lot easier to manage now.

Hoping everyone else is doing well - soon be into week 3 wow time is flying!!!

hi ,your doing really well keep going your children will thank you for it ,i promise .

ive got three children ,stopped each time i was pregnant and started again a couple months after each birth .i dont know what it was that made me start again ,mabey just that i could ,but boy do i regret it .
