The first day without patches will barely affect you... for me the third day without was the worst! It was proper withdrawal and I had only used patches for a week... so I think I was barely ready to take it.
It's probably a good idea to continue using them if you don't feel ready, but don't freak out, its really not so bad for 1 day/a few hours
Only went and forgot to put me patch on this morning, won't get a chance to put it on until at least 3.30pm - this will be a testing day!
I was thinking about ditching the patches a bit early but not this early........feel a bit panicky already!

I'm sure you'll be fine Jane. As Sofia says, a few hours will be fine. It might even be worth seeing how you go without a patch now (make sure you have one handy though - just in case). Good luck!! :). xx
i'd go with what sofia and the cap'n say too, really not too bad and if you do have a little panic remember it will pass i think in the early days without nicotine that panic feeling is just your brain telling you it is feeling a little overloaded and just needs a couple of minutes to sort itself out, nothing more, certainly no nicotine required!
1- use this accident as the start of quitting the patches (and therefore becomming nicotine free)
2-Put the patches on again and carry on.
Either way, you are doing so well, dont let it ruin things.
Just remember- you have to come off the patches at some point, so whats wrong with doing it today? We always used reasons/excuses to carry on smoking, saying "i'll cut down" or "i'll do it next week/month/year" etc. But now is the perfect time!!!
Hope that hasnt come across as too harsh, its just my opinion.
Thanks for the words of encouragement, I'll fully admit that I'm worried about coming off the patches and what it will be like, I'm due to stop them 21st November and am going away for a few days on 22nd Nov. Am thinking of maybe stopping them a week before to get over any side effects before I go away. I've never gone through a whole course of anything before so I wondered whether that was the reason I hadn't found my sticky quit yet.......argh don't know what to do, I do have lozenges so maybe if I leave the patches off but use the lozenges (I have 2 a night, hmmm think I'm addicted to them now!!)
i guess its mainly because i have that kind of disipline with myself- i wont allow myself to have any excuses, especially in my quit!
A very good philosophy I think. I'm trying to do the same. My subconscious is coming up with all sorts of reasons why I should have a cig but I'm ignoring it :D. Hopefully it'll get bored soon :).
I know how you feeling with reference to forgetting to put the patch on but you could look at it as a good thing. Smoking must no longer be at the forefront of your mind otherwise you would have remembered to put it on - good hey?
If you need to put a patch on when you get home or tomorrow then you do it hun. As someone once said to me this is not a sprint it's a marathon and a patch is better then smoking!
Proud of you me lovelie, I'm sure you will be just fine xx
Well got home and on went the patch - am gonna try and see the whole course out!
Thanks for all of your advice and for listening, you really are great the lot of you!
Jane
That's cool!! Patches or no patches - whatever works for you. The important thing is not to smoke. As has been mentioned often in these forums, it's a marathon not a sprint so go at your own pace.
For me personally, stopping the hand-to-mouth thing and nicotine intake all at the same time would be too overwhelming. So I'm using patches to get over the hand-to-mouth action, and I'll work on cutting out nicotine later.
